Welcome to TSN !

Unless you can get into a newer common rail diesel found in the BMs or some of the later Audi / VW engines I am not sure what you can do.

I have heard that its possible to fit extra sound deadening to cars but that isn't going to change the sound only reduce what you might be able to hear in the cabin I am afraid.

Welcome to TSN!

Different fuels can make a bit of difference, well it seems it does anyway mines the 2.5 v6 tdi, with mine i found just buying sainsburys diesel can make a bit of difference im going to try the BP stuff when i can, just from filling up at sainsburys the car sounded a little bit quieter and smoother then when i fill up at the local esso, when i had a 1.9 tdi i didnt really notice or think about it as long as i was getting over 500 miles to a tank 169144-ok.gifECLIPSe.gif

You can actually buy and fit sound deadening material, but it increases the weight of your car, is a pain to fit and it's not cheap. If your car is anything like a lupo with painted metal on the inside I would say that you are gonna get a lot of noise. Cars with lined interiors tend to be quieter.
