[Audi A3/S3] A3 window regulator problem

Had a problem with my 98 A3 near side electric window.

Window would go down ok but when I tried to put the window up, it would go up a few inches before stopping and then going down.

The problem was a broken green clip which attached the window glass to the electric window drive wire. It is the same as the problem reported here:

I asked my dealer to sell me the green clip only but as reported by previous posts, the dealer claimed not to sell the clip seperate from the regulator. They wanted to charge me UK pounds 75 for the regulator just so that I could take the green clip off.

Have found the Audi part number for a replacement clip. I think that it is for an A6 but it fits my A3 and works well. The clip is made of metal with a plastic coating.

The part number is 4B0-837-463-B. It cost UK pounds 2.15.

Picture of both clips attached (hopefully). Old clip is green, new clip is red.

Found the A6 part number here:

Found a site refering to it's use on an A3 (in german) here:

The german site has a picture of 3 different clips, the original green clip and 2 others, both of which are different to mine !

Clip is metal and should be a lot more robust. Works fine for me !

I have just had this fail on my 99 A3 3-door. Thanks for a great forum, this has saved me an expensive trip to the dealer.

BTW, I found it possible to remove the green clip without having to remove the whole frame; it is a little tricky undoing the screw which retains the glass to the clip but it is possible. I used a small Torx bit and a small spanner to turn the Torx bit.

Charlie.
