dq1
I've heard stories about car washes trashing paint work, but is this true? Surely during this feekin freezing weather, and for about £1.50 more, it would be nicer to just sit in the car whilst it gets clean!!

Thats the way I look at it anyway. It depends on how much you love your car I guess. But I don't care how much a car wash operator says how soft his brushes are .....No brush = No swirl marks When I jet wash it's only to get the worst off before I hand wash and I never use the brush! But thats me Seven months old now and not a single swirl mark on the car The best thing you can do this time of year is hot jet wash and cold rinse the wheel arches and underside . All that salt corroding away........NASTY!
Gren
Agree with Avus. Don;t use the driver through jobbies or you'll be swirled to feck. Mind you, you'll never totally avoid them if you've a dark car. Mine picks up swirls all the time despite using wash mitt etc every time. All you can do is minimise them. cleanimage
We see lots of cars damaged at the jet wash... but it isn't the jet wash that is the problem, it's the brushes they supply. Apart from the fact that the brush is usually to harsh, they often have a metal box that it lives in, this box becomes filled with dirt, grit, rust and other crap which you then end up brushing onto your car. Paul
i never auto car wash mine. i also never use the brush if i use a commercial jet wash due to all the crap they collect. Ive just bought my own power washer, that come with a rotary brush, and i dont even use tht on the car for fear of swirls.

But thats me [/ QUOTE ] Me too. I only use the spray when I fill up. Bloke always says to me. "Don't you want the brush?". No I say just the spray. Give it a soak, drive home, just round the corner and the wash by hand. Never go through the car scratcher. If I want it scratched I'll ask my three year old to wash it. Huss
What would be realy good is a car wash that can give you the underside programme to blast away all that salt and junk at this time of year but without the brush cycle. I've got a power washer at home - but short of lying on the floor next to the car I never get the feeling that I'm getting all of the gunk out from the underside. R32North
Never use either! Only ever hand wash my cars, even the 12 year old, 125k miler (Audi) which is one reason why the paint on it is still looking good!!
