Golfgirl
Normally Autoglym Metal Polish with a bit of rag. But I've left it so long now the tips have gone rusty and I can't get the black off. My boyfriend has got me some stuff a bit like a scourer but less harsh but I have yet to try it. Calm Chris
If its really caked on try some oven cleaner / Mr Muscle. I use it and it does clear most of the burnt oil / coked up gunk off very quickly. If you spray the ends b4 you wash the car, by the time your rinsing the car down it will have done the job. Golfgirl
Never thought of that Chris - I might try it soon!
Calm Chris
CG My logic is that a chemical used for cleaning burnt oven dishes (carbon and fats) would work just as well on R32 tail pipes with carbon and oil deposits. So BBQ cleaners and oven cleaners should sort it. Chow,

[/ QUOTE ] Okay gang, having read these posts I thought I'd clean mine up! Never been cleaned before as far as I can tell. First I used the Fairy Power Spray, (how domesticated, I know!) Left it on for about 20mins, couldn't belive the amout of crud it brought off!! Then to get the really stubborn caked on stuff I used more spray along with some very very fine sandpaper (240 grade i think0. This got the caked on stuff off along with a few rust smears on the inside. Next a good clean with Autoglym metal polish. Even more crud came off, despite me thinking the pipes were clean by then!! I've not rubbed anything that hard for a long time(stop tittering at the back) Finally, a good coating of Autoglym super resin polish!! They now look like new, Riz 32 would be proud!! Thanks go to: Autoglym Fairy Power Spray (green trigger pack) And the wife for bringing me hot tea You lot for shaming me into doing it Sorry no photo's yet as the Mrs reckons I'm sad enough for polishing my pipes in the freezing weather, let alone taking pictures!!! Golfgirl
Well I've been cleaning my exhaust this afternoon. Started off with Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner. Didn't really seem to do much so I tried Fairy Power Spray. That seemed to do the trick, although I missed a bit! Now have some more Mr Muscle on to see if it can get the bit off that I missed. If not then I'll try Fairy again!! One tip though - after spraying make sure you wipe any overspray off the paintwork. I missed a bit and have a spot of sripped paint now
Calm Chris
Oh my... I suggested Mr Muscle, as you now know, its caustic based. I used it for bike pipes and the R32, but have never let the over spray stay on the paint! Sorry, I should have made myself much clearer and suggested some caution regarding the paint work. Is it a really small spot? Please say yes... Take care.
Golfgirl
It's about the size of a 5p piece and is in the recess where the exhaust comes out. So it's not hugely noticeable, but noticeable all the same! TBH I think it was the Fairy that did it rather than the Mr Muscle. I've got shiny pipes again though
Calm Chris
I used the Fairy stuff on the stainless sink in the kitchen, the phone rang, so before wiping the stuff in / off there was a 5 minute soak. Now, there's blemishes in the stainless steel, where the spray was concentrated. The product should have more warning labels.... That's £140 for another sink and an hours work, sometime as and when. Markallain
Don't think I'll be taking the stuff near my car now. I'm a little careless at times which is bound to end in disaster.
mooret
I just use a bit of chrome cleaner and serious elbow grease. It brings up the inside of the pipes a treat!
philbeckett
I cleaned mine today with some oven cleaner from Lakeland and some fine wire wool - it didn't involve that much elbow grease and its brought the outside and edge up a real treat and started to make an impact on the inside but it needs a bit more effort to get that back to its former glory! helfinger
Ok i can tell you how to get the perfect shine. here you go this is what you need.... a) Autoglym metal polish b) Electric Drill c) Buffing pad..same size as the inside of the pipe, smaller will do.. Squeeze some of the Autoglym Metal polish inside the tail pipe and get your drill and away you go...it will bring up the inside with a mirror finish. you can also go around the edge, just watch the bumper...... hope that helps......
