willison
Help My automatic transmission on my 1977 BMW 530i (zf 3hp-22) will not shift up through the gears when it is cold. After it has warmed up (5 minutes), it seems to work fine. I have changed the filter & put in fresh fluid but the problem persists. Does anyone have any ideas that might cure this problem. Is there a magic additive out there that I could try ? Any input on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike........
Ram®
When you changed the filter, did you see two magnets at the bottom of the sump and if so, did they look like hedgehogs? I had the same symptoms as you and now my Alpina gearbox is pressurising - forcing up fluid through the dipstick tube. New gearbox is on order... Best wishes, Ram
A3Floyd
i'm no engineer but i remember some of the older auto gearboxes used to have problems similar to yours which were caused by pressurisation problems. did you put the correct grade oil in? i can only suggest getting it checked over by a gearbox engineer.
