Crusader01
Gents Can anyone explain the difference between the VAG COM details I see on ebay for £30 and the what I assume to be more genuine at £200? I assume there must be a catch somewhere? Regards C
Rustynuts
Oh yes. When you buy a cheap cble, you only get to use the freeware version of the Vag com software. To register and upgrade to full software will cost about £100. This allows you to use it on one computer, then if you want to use another computer you have to un-register, and re-register it. When you buy a pukka Vag com, it comes with a built in software "dongle" which means that you can use the cable and software on any computer, with full functionality. Also, the tech support with the proper cable is excellent. If you buy your own cable, then contact Ross-tech with a problem, the answer will understandably be "Ask the cable seller!" The proper deal is the one I'd get.
mrfirepro
I bought the full version, I wish I had bought the cheap cable version as Ross tech support as been of no help what so ever.
cruiser647
I bought one off eBay and got the software for it. Then asked the seller for the VAG-Com software. He sent me a freeware one. It was OK, but is restricted to what it can do. Depends what you want to check. I could not check out the throttle valve movement for instance. Crusader01
Seems to be a minor gathering of A8 & Ex A8 here..... I just want to change some settings on my Nav Unit, not going to touch anything else not wanting to turn a drama into a crisis. So basically bar the software functionality the cables are much the same? I have got one thats collecting dust but it came with the 4 wires unconnected to the red socket so its pretty much useless. Rustynuts
You'll have to spend money upgrading to the full software to do that.
Tobes49
[ QUOTE ] I bought the full version, I wish I had bought the cheap cable version as Ross tech support as been of no help what so ever. [/ QUOTE ] Who did you speak to? They are the most helpful company I have ever delt with. Not sure what happened there but there customer service is normally excellent. Or look at it this way, If you own another make of car and want something like VAG-COM you will pay £1000-30,000 pounds for the same thing, which makes £200 look very cheap. mrfirepro
Hi Tobes49, I enquired several times about secret key codes, they took time answering me, and did not even take the time to read my email properly. They just said they do not provide secret key codes in a very kurt email. If they had taken the time to read my email it would have been apparnet that, that was not the question I was asking. Tobes49
Can understand why, but there not normaly like that. I'm on the mailing list for VAG-COM and they must get asked for key-codes about 2-3times a week. Which is why they just scaned your email then sent you out a preset reply. Not the correct thing to do.
