My car`s oil consumption is going to hit the 5 litre of Castrol SLX today, i was told by many people including the dealership that these turbo cars do suck alot of oil, so far Mo-S3 has told me that he`s only ever had 1/2 litre in at 13,000 miles....... im starting to think something maybe wrong now? confused.gif

Anybody else with Oil consumption figures of there S3 please??? Cheers smirk.gif

I went about 5000 miles without needing any extra at all, then can't remember when but I did top up 1/2 a litre. Not that long ago I topped up another 1/4 and I'm now reading just over 8250 miles. Damn, I was at the dealership lunchtime and I forgot to pick up another bottle! smashfreakB.gif

Looks like i`ll make a trip down to the dealership to get a bottle of oil and ask the service ppl!

There doesnt seem to be any oil leaks either, maybe something is wrong? i know turbo`s usually use alot of oil but that seems to be working fine?? any more idea`s?

Riz, turbo'd engined cars run a hot hotter than non turbo'd cars and if the car is drinking oil then its not necessarily meant that she has an oil leak, i think due to the extra heat it gets burned off. Have u noticed more than usual (compared to another S3) smoke from your exhaust.

I think i know what ur service guys will say but seriously 5litres is a hell of a lot of oil. Try ringing various different dealers and asking them on their opinion of the drink problem. maybe a certain dealer has heard about this scenario before and knows what to do.

Worth a try!!

Cheers Mo,

I will investigate further..... my exhaust has no smoke usually unless its a cold day, i use optimax and my exhaust to this day is still shiney, all i do is clean it with a cloth. grin.gif

Cant really say that it gives off too much heat, i have had the charcoal filter tick sometimes, but apart from that its running nicely.

Erk...

Mine used a litre within a couple thousand miles. Typically, it uses about a litre every 3k miles, now.

{counts}

'Kin 'ell, that means I've used 10 litres in 33k miles.shocked.gif

That sounds baaad.confused.gif

I had this out with my dealer a while back and mentioned it to an ADT during the latest coil-pack fiasco. Both said it sounded ok for an S3.

Bear in mind this was in stock tune, pre-Revo.

There does seem to be a large range for the same car? As I said so far I've put in 3/4 of a litre and have done almost 8300 now and Riz S3 has done 14k and had to put 5 litres in!! Should the variation be that large, or is it something that Audi have done to change it? Mine is a 52 September reg, built end of October. Cobstar9's is a similar age/mileage and has used approx the same oil as mine, that would suggest to me there has been a modification of some type?

A MODIFICATION ???? For what ?? to consume more oil?? Im sure the boffins at Audi had a big conference and came to a unanamous decision to tweak their cars to consume more oil, in the region of 5 litres per 14k mls! thus resulting in hoards of drivers swarming dealers to buy their really really really expensive oil.

I meant it seems the newer ones (I'm presuming Riz's is a bit older?) are NOT using as much oil, or at least 2 cars built in Oct/Sept (still pretty new) have both not used a litre of oil yet in 6-8k miles which seems a lot less than some that are saying there car is a year or more old. Before you say it, yes I know that have done more mileage, but I mean the average say per 1k lol.gif

Shall we all agree then that Riz has ragged the arse off his car and wrecked his engine?? And his engine is suffering with a chronic drinking problem which Riz is aiding and abetting !!

[/ QUOTE ]

That being the case then "guilty as charged, m'lud"

I am curious as to the different consumption between the older and newer cars, though.

Any other '01 210 owners care to reveal their oil consumption?

Hello ppl, dealer said what i thought they would say "that`s normal sir, dont worry about it"

Maybe the BAM 225bhp engines do use less oil......... oh and i dont abuse my lovely S3 smile.gif

Its 100% standard and one of the rare MY2002 ones too smile.gif, running perfectly too jump.gif

p.s. its not consumed 5litres yet, just drank 4litres.... going to start 5th @ 14,000miles smile.gif

Now I am concerned -- I've been told by three dealers and an ADT that the oil consumption for my car is not excessive and that I need not worry about it, yet mine's used approx 10 litres since new and is on 33k miles and then there's others here only sipping the stuff.

I religiously ran mine in as instructed for the first 1000 miles (despite my feeling that this was unnecessary) and don't red-line it all the time.

What sort of driving are y'all doing? Mine is mainly fast road/motorway stuff with very little round town, stop-start type driving. I'd expect this style of driving to consume more oil.

Well, I go easy while the car is warming up, don't take it above 3k and easy on the go pedal, but once its warmed up it does get some stick. Its rare I take it much above 6-6.5k but at junctions etc I do put my foot down. Most of my drivng is around town though, half of my daily commute to work is dual carriage way, but with traffic I don't get the chance to do much more than 60 for most of it.

[/ QUOTE ] yes i will most definately be ringing up other dealers to ask there opinion, same here, let the car warm up to 90c and stay below 3,000rpms! usually drive to work and back during the week, around 5miles per day if that and usually do around 200 on weekends when it does get abit more speed out of the engine. motorways etc......still nothing out of the ordinary.

p.s. mine is a 2002 AMK210 S3! znaika.gif

Here`s a breakdown =

Wikkus = 10 litres @ 33,000 miles = 1 litre per 3,300 miles

Mine = 4 litres @ 14,000 miles = 1 litre per 3,500 miles

Maybe its motorway releated, i would assume that the turbo is always fed oil, so the more it spool`s the more it`ll use, i.e. city driving with lots of gear changes will use more, but if your on the motorway alot then the turbo is always running hence less oil consumption??? just a theory
