obvious
My golf hesitates on accel from cold or warm. It's AFT engine mk3 100bhp model. I changed the sparks, ht leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, fuel filter, air filter, but it's still hesitating when under load throughout rev range from 2.5k to 4.5k (can't get it much above that). It's always hesitated a bit in the summer when it's been a warm day from cold when going up a hill from work (within 1 min of starting up), but it's now hesitating in 3rd, 4th & fifth on the flat (worse up hills). It used to be fine 100mph+ but can now it only manages 70 to 80mph max. The brakes aren't binding & yet when out of gear & stationary it will rev fine up to 6k or so... It's so annoying, I've gone from driving easily to driving like my nan ! Anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem ? Air mass meter perhaps ? Blocked injectors ? (Used redex petrol & injector treatment - but no difference). Thanks for reading all this ...
obvious
It's ok I've diagnosed what it is. It's the air flow meter (or wiring). I disconnected the wiring & took it out - it was fine with no hesitation whatsoever ! Although idling was a bit lumpy (to be expected). I got the info from reading prev posts about hesitation - so doh ! Perhaps I should have read them first ... Thanks anyway btw great site with very good info. thanks again ! obvious
Thought I'd post an update. After scouring the net for a replacement air mass meter, I had the following options : 1. Buy a genuine replacement from local VW dealership for 315 pounds ! 2. Buy a secondhand exchange unit for 75 pounds (from same dealersip) 3. Buy a new unit from gsfcarparts for 165 pounds ! In desperation I had a look on eBay. I found a seller who was selling new air mass meters for my golf for just 61 pounds - yes 61 ! (including delivery price of 6 pounds). Needless to say I bought one & fitted it this morning (it was brand new - not secondhand or anything). The car runs like a dream ... what more can I say, except eBay came up trumps & I would def source seemingly expensive parts from there again ! Just goes to show how much dealerships rip off their customers ... Cheers
