Bentley GT

Had one for a few hours today and was impressed! Having said that my expectations could not have been lower. The car is still a lump and not very fast (considering what it should be). But it has I little character. The sound the of pipes is quite nice, and... well actually that’s about it. The wood and leather does nothing for me, the weight of the car is ridiculous. How can this be marketed as sporty?! I’ve had sportier things come out of my arse!

Having said that considering how wet it was today it was a joy to drive. You just can’t get the wheels st spin, or get the ESP light flickering. If I was in the 65 I would have been all over the shop, well if I was in the 65 I would probably be about 3 miles in front anyway so little matter!

All I can say is didn't like it and would never buy one. But for those who want a four seater, don’t like the CL, and don't want to pay 180k for a 612. Get an M3 or M6, fu$k the fat piece of sh1t Bentley with stuffy fuddy duddy interior.

P.S mums ordered a convertible one for 2007, she gets one of the first, and she WILL be selling it on straight away!

Very slow compared to the 65 and slow compared to the 55. In general it had a nice delivery, but for what they made it out to be, it should defo be faster. I havent driven an RS6 yet but I would imagine it would be similar to that.

It is supposed to be a GT, but then isnt a Vanquish, DB9, SL and 612 supposed to be? I can't speak for all of them but the Vanquish and SL are far more sporty, the GT just wants to be a saloon! 169144-ok.gif

The Bentley GT is nearly as quick as the GT2 and will beat a SL55 (rolling starts) 169144-ok.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't believe that for a second. Even with the 4 wheel drive the 55 would blitz it to 60 and beat it by over a second to the ton. I remember reading the CL65 comparison with the Bentley, and Autocar just said it was unfair on the Bentley. That’s the 65 but the 55 does 0-100 in 10 flat every time you mash the throttle, I recall reading Gt's do it in 11.5... M3 territory!

I admit in real world conditions where it will have a torque advantage on most cars (not the 55). I would say its closet competitor would be the RS6 or Cayenne turbo in terms of performance and drive, and its overall benchmark would be a CL55.

Again just my opinion! 169144-ok.gif

The RS6 is quicker & faster than the SL & CL55 AMG smile.gif & is only 1/2sec slower than the 65, but given a 65 is close to £150K, i'd hope it was slightly quicker than a 60K RS6. Although as mine can now hit 60 in 4secs i guess that all is not obvious with a modified RS6 cool.gif

Do agree that having driven a Conti, they do appear very heavy & certainly not as quick or nimble as an RS6, but if i was cruising down to Monte Carlo or the like, i'd rather be in a Conti cool.gif Although as i've never had a desire to drive across Europe, i'll stick with my 560BHP Audi shocked.gif

This is the SL65 data:

0-100km/hr (62.5mph) in 3.9

0-160km/hr (100mph) in 8.2

0-200km/hr (124mph) in 12.6

0-400M in 11.9

The SL55

0-60 4.6

0-100 10.1

RS6:

0-60 4.6/4.9

0-100 11.2/11.5

Bentley GT

0-60 4.7

0-100 11.25

That has taken me ages to find all that lot out. Note they are all from different sources so road conditions are not the same, but we get the just. The two times for the RS6 are due to saloon vs avant.

This shows there is not too much in it but still enough to justify. My main point is just that The Bentley GT is not a sports car in the way it was originally meant to be perceived. It can be appreciated but for different reasons.

Precisely. Sub 4 seconds sorts the girls out from the boys beerchug.gif

...even more impressive considering it's a heavy merc.

Be nice if you could bring it to the a4/a4 cab meet Wopps 169144-ok.gif

In no way trying to be pedantic, but according to AMG, the sprint for an SL65 is 4.2 secs with a 155mph limited top speed & 4.6 secs for an SL55. The RS6 saloon is the same as the 55 at 4.6 secs. Could not see 0-100 on the AMG site.

My info was reality when i had my car up against both a 55 & 65 at VMAX (Bruntingthorpe) & my RS6 dispatched the 55 & was only very marginally slower than the 65. To be fair, mine is modified, so stock would be closer.

Love the 65 though, but for its outrageous price tag its a stunning motor.

Wopps i am talking realy world situations, so it doesnt matter whether you believe it or not smashfreakB.gif I even had a chat with the B GT driver as well as the SL55 driver to confirm whether he was giving it full beans blush.gif Maybe as the B GT is so big you didnt get the same perception of speed as you would in the 55! 169144-ok.gif

Maybe that one was run in (not that I can see it make that much of a difference). Perhaps I'm just used the ridicules power of the 65, but I remember reading Evo with the RS6 vs E55 and in a straight line the 55 blew the RS away. I also remember them doing a test with the SL55 against a porka turbo, Bentley GT and DB9. The Bentley was the slowest of the group, by a long way from what i recolect, the DB9 was third, The SL was slower than the Porka, (by very little) up to 100, by 110 the SL started to gain the lead.

Again, this is all from memory, it would have been about this time last year that mag was released, I remember reading it on the beach in Ibiza cool.gif. I'll have a rummage, but as stock, I would be very surprised if I can find something to prove the RS6 is faster (of course in normal weather conditions).

I do have a copy of a Road and Track magazine somewhere, where they do 3.8 to 60 and 8 seconds flat to the ton, in the 65 though cool.gif.

Paul, I’m not trying to diss, the RS6 at all (especially not your 560bhp monster), my brother has the Avant and it’s a smashing car, if anything it’s a compliment that it has similar performance to the 120k Bentley. My only point is that I thought the Bentley was supposed to be faster than that, and I was pushing it.

We have a steep hill near to my parents house, in Amersham, with Tesco’s at the bottom. This is their main test when buying a performance car, you munch it at the bottom, and at a certain point before you hit the top you see what speed you get up to. The Bentley could do 100, my Golf can do 80ish, the 55 could do about 105 and the 65, can reach 115!!

I know this test isn’t real worldly, but it basically shows you how quickly it accelerates. The RS6 hasn’t been tested and I could be proved wrong, I’ll get my brother down to have a looksie!!

I remember Lagoo trying to chase the B GT down the motorway en-route to Dover for LM04. The M3 had no chance, that thing was flying. Slow they ain't.

[/ QUOTE ]

Again, that’s real worldly, in a straight from standstill, if the GT does 0-100 in 11.25 that’s similar to the M3, and that’s my only point.

The GT is obviously very popular, and I am sure it is a good car, I just personally felt it is overrated. The wood, the leather does nothing for me, and I know that’s part of the Bentley package for their target customer, but I am not that and in fact it puts me off the car. I don't want to be thinking that that cosmetic crap is what I am putting my money in to. I want performance, handling, all the toys and that’s it. I am Bentley’s worst nightmare...!

With the big press release in all the car mags before it came out, it was said to be a sports car that can do over 200 miles an hour and 0-60 in under 4 seconds. When it appeared in the showrooms it just turned out to be a 2.5 tonne monster and much slower than expected. Evo recorded 0-60 in 5.2! I just found it a bit disappointing. But I am sure for most people it is adequate…
