Hi everyone!

Had a nightmare today. The passenger side window has fell insode the door and when i switch the electric window on i can hear the motor turning. Anyone know how to get it out? or is it expensive to fix?

I know obviously i gotta remove the door panel but is it worth me having a go or best just gettin vw to do it?

Any help on this situation would be greatly appreciated, asap cause its pouring sown outside and i dont wanna leave it too long! confused.gif

thanks nicola

Door panals are easy enough to get off...

And then putting the window back on its brackets is easy enough to do.

Give it a go yourself or get your boyfriend/husband/dad/neighbour to give it a go if you can't manage it.

If they're all useless, go to the garage.

If you can't manage it yourself, stick a binliner over the hole and tape it up, at least!

If you own or have ever owned a VW, this has happened to you.

Make sure the stealer gives you a 50% discount on fixing it, it’s a courtesy item. If I were you I would get them to sort all the clips out at the same time too. One final thing, if your car has that thin metal trim around the handles inside make sure you check it over carefully because they have to remove it to get the panel off and it's oh so easy to damage it and impossible to fix. I had to wait weeks for new ones as they tried to fob me off with the ones they bent to get off. mad.gif

Quite a common problem on Golfs. I remember people talking about a green clip that breaks. You will need a special Torx (I think that's what they are called) screwdriver. Look at the bottom of the door panel.

Is it under warranty?

Wife lost both windows into the door on her MkIV. Apparently a plastic clip is all that keeps it up (ooer!)

On separate occasions the car was booked in just to replace the plastic clip with a metal one - they wouldn't change both until they went, despite it being highly likely that the other would go soon. Luckily all covered by warranty.

My buttcheeks.gif. What they're trying to say is. "It was badly designed, should not have broken, it's our fault so let's split the bill." Oh yeah, great idea. Thanks very much. mad.gif

Oh and the cost is what?

Inspection of car. Flat fee of around £60.00

Fixing problem 1/2-1hr labour £35.00-£70.00

Parts £15.00

Total bull of up to £145.00

You pay half.

This is 10X what it would have cost at manufacture to fit a proper clip.

God the amount of calls we get for bloody Golf MkIV front doorglasses having dropped down! Sadly putting the window back on the brackets is not that easy Beez due to the inherent design fault highlighted above. Clips were indeed plastic - not resin - on early IVs: VW realised the problem pretty quickly but decided it was not serious enough to recall the car. Instead they merely produced a 'fix kit' for when the fault occurs. VW Stealers should rectify for free. As mentioned above, the kit is 99% profit for VW - you driving to them during their opening hours. Autoglass will however supply and fit the 'fix kit' if a customer specifically wants to use ourselves - a mobile call out during a weekend for example.

Hello

Well, after a long discussion with VW they quoted me £150 to fix the window. They wouldnt pay half or anything like that. I wish id never got this car its given me trouble since day one...

Got the car in Jan (its a 4 year old GT TDI 150 Golf):

1. The brake light switch went within a month of getting it £50

2. The alternator wires came loose which made the engine management light flash £109

3. The rear wiper leakes in the boot (still not fixed)

4. The car got towed from outside my house, nothing to do with VW but still cost me £500 to get back

5. Now the bloody window has fell in the door, i just cant belive it.

I bought a citroen ax when i was at uni it cost me £350 quid never had any trouble with it over the 3 years, think i might get rid of the golf..

I’m genuinely sorry to hear about all the crap your VW has been dishing out and the fact that the bloody stealer refuses to pay at least half is just stupid. You need to contact the Head Office right now because he is without doubt wrong. As you can see I have a Volvo but I did have a VW before and that gave me even more trouble than yours. It’s a shame that VW have let standards go so low. Most of the problems look to be down to penny pinching. Shame on them. mad.gif

Nice! You get it fixed or boycott the VW Stealer then? tongue.gif

Autoglass standard remove and refit charge is circa £55 - although cannot remember if that is pre or post-vat (not in the office at the moment). New clips should be a matter of pounds. Drive straight into a branch and get one of the guys to have a look. If the branch-tech is busy, you may leave it with them - space allowing - for a overnight lock up. Essex branches:

Chelmsford: Just off the A12 down New Dukes Way - ironically by the Audi Stealership.

Romford: South Street off Rom Valley Way behind Tesco and near the ice rink.

Basildon: Burnt Mills Industrial Estate, off the A127 junction down East Mayne passed Sainsbury or Tesco (cannot remember which)

Harlow: Elizabeth Way (off the A414?) by the Citroen Dealership.

Hey, get '3' fixed pronto ! As per my post above, I had the same problem, it will leak on the boot lock and bugger your alarm. It costs £0 to fix, just 2 screws to remove the boot panel, a bit of tape to hole the pipe on properly, and bingo. You could do it yourself, or a dealer should do it for free, its a 2 minute job !
