shao_khan
Nice looking hotel in the newly refurbished cardif bay area. Hotel has all rooms looking over waterfront, and some offer good views over the estuary and surrounding areas. Hotel staff were all young but top notch, everyone was polite, friendly and knowledgable, none of them could be faulted at any time other than one small incident (see below). Rooms, were pretty good, above average space (35sq m I think), but did lack power shower, coffee making fascilities (you had to request these) and heating (they had turned it off for the summer). I did request auxilliary heating and was given a portable fan heater, it had no sticker to show it had an annual test and on closer examination I could see exposed wires from the flex where it had got hot - obviously not a safe thing to be giving to a hotel guest. Food - ordered room service for evening meal and breakfast. Both were luke warm, rice dish had cool rice that felt in texture like it had been stood for a while, and breakfasts were pretty poor most of them cold which wasnt nice. Spa fascilities - top notch, excellent pools, saunarium, etc, all clean and well staffed. OVerall - nice place, nice location, nice fascilities - but the food is cr@p, so if you eat out can fully recommend this place as a base.
Scotty
I stayed there in December (wedding reception there) and although it was all very nice on the surface, I left thinking that something was missing from a supposed 5 star hotel. The food we had was very good (for a wedding reception) and many people said they'd have been happy to pay for it i.e. like a restuarant meal. Nice but could do better...although possibly not in Wales!
shao_khan
I guess that kinda sums up my feelings - it did feel like something was missing.
chinnke
I've also stayed there, and it's no 5 star, more a glorified holiday Inn. Give it 3 years and they'll struggle to justify the high room charges. And why do they only have a poxy Alba 12" TV in the junior suite??!! Rubbish! shao_khan
I knew there was something I had forgot to say. I stayed at the CityINN a couple of months back and they had good size LCD display with bose sound - this room in cardif had a TV with a screen smaller than my Ipaq. Scotty
I was getting very drunk so wasn't using the room to watch TV. Didn't even notice if it had one.
JamesB
Agreed. Not bad but doesn't merit 5 stars or the price, particularly the restaurant.
M3Will
room service sucks. the restaurant there is much better. had a great meal there last time we stayed. had a duplex suite as well and that was top notch. the place distinctly lacks any real character though. JamesB
Do you think they have two different teams in the kitchen? Reports on the standard of the restaurant seem to be very polarised!
M3Will
quite possibly - may even have a completely new team.
