CARACTERE 007
just to let anyone know if they are thinking of going to Brittany, we travelled to Caen from Portsmouth on Brittany ferries and all i can say is awesome, very friendly service, great food and a good range of things to do on the 5 hour crossing ohh and the ferry was of a very high standard, kind of reminded me of a high class hotel near enough , shiny marble evrywhere with lots of open plan comfortable seating. On the way back we travlled on P&O ferries from Le Harve to portsmouth, flippin heck the ferry looked like an aeroflot airline, a 70's throwback, seats were ripped, very dirty rooms, toilets were poor and not very clean. Food was very poor in comparison to Brittany ferries. Only plus point i can think of is that the rooms were self contained so that all the other school parties/ people on the ferry were seperated. without doubt next time i'll travel by Brittany ferries. a4tdi130
Very useful - I have used a ferry 4 times (moving computer servers from Cheshire to Geneva by rented white van!) and always used P&O but was wondering how they compared to others as I want to take my family over to France in the car on a ferry over the summer. Will definitely look up Brittany - had never heard of them
shao_khan
I always use P&O - but the doverr route has all the latest ferries so I guess they are bound ot be good. Oh and I got shares in them, so need to help the profit line!!!!

petsar68
Brittany Ferries are very good as long as you get on one of their newer ships. This may be the case with all the companies.Might be worth checking which ship you are sailing on before booking ??
schmoo
if u arent paying for it then its worth going on the chunnel. if you book early enough you get a good deal imho we paid 80-odd quid return to go on it and its well worth it. drove down to chamonix though 600 miles.. :S
sitas3
Last night I priced up a return crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo in August with Brittany Ferries - nearly £700! feck that!
bk
We are going to Brittany in September. IIRC it was over £500 when I looked at booking a ferry crossing. Booked to gone on the channel tunnel, just over £100 return. 35mins crossing, 5hr drive plus couple of pit stops.

Scotty
I just read on another forum (trackdayheroes.com) that SeaFrance have some specials on. The example was a 10day trip in September for only £28.

shao_khan
Dont forget you can get discount on P&O with your tesco clubcard points.
DanG
P&O run the fast Cat from Portsmouth to Caen in around 3 hours, and then you've got some lovely tarmac and empty roads. (What you do with it is entirely up to you!) We have a home in Brittany and P&O are my choice everytime...
Philbes
Speedferries from Dove to Boulogne (have I spelt that right?) for 50 pounds. Takes around 45 minutes, but usually leaves about 30 minutes late. You can book an ticket now for next year and change the date/times for 10 pounds. The Cat is a bit grubby but never crowded as no foot passengers.
AlaisterM
[ QUOTE ] if u arent paying for it then its worth going on the chunnel. if you book early enough you get a good deal imho [/ QUOTE ] i agree....just enough time to get an egg and bacon croissant from the pret a manger in the terminal, sit back and read the paper in the car during the journey and - voila - arrive asap. mind you;i've been stuffed more than once with having to pay full whack if i've left it too late to book. Can work out mega expensive.
