Calling all Evo owners past and present. I'm thinking about switching to an Evo but would like some of your 'Evo' knowledge and experince.

There seems to be a mirad of variations and such like.....

Tell me what you think, what to look for, running cost, what to avoid, etc?

Cheers!

A nice idea when looking at the stats, and thinking about the fancy 4 wheel drive but you get turned off when you see it. You think before hand, its not that bad inside, I can opt for the air con, then stick an aftermarket sat nav and stereo, but unfortunately it just won't do. Its poor in there. The exhaust note is just boomy, and the car looks plain silly. O and you have to keep the car in the power band or its limp. In the power band its a devil, you find your self doing 3 times the speed limit very easily. The rides not bad actually and the seats are both comfy and supportive, the CSL could learn alot! The clutch is heavy but has a good biting point.

In a nutshell it has good and bad points. I drove the evo 8 fq300, the new one is supposed to be even better to use everyday and a bit faster. Its defiantly worth a drive, you will either love it and forget the looks and image, or hate it...

I love the look of the Tommi Maks, Vs and VIs I think but the VII and VII are not so hot. Performance wise I think they rock and have heard good things about hem..... but I'm not sure on teh interiors - all jap and plastic.

The IX looks like a not bad place to park my bum, but I'd have to see it in the flesh to be sure. Theres a few Mitsi dealers round my way so I'll have to pop along for a gander.

Basically, I'm want 4 or 5 doors but also some performance to go with it. I can't afford an S4 (house, wife and soon to be here sprog have saw to that) and BMW don't do a saloon M3!!

Don't drive one, you'll want one.

The ones to go for ar the newer ones badged 'MR' rather than the 'FQ' ones, MR340 is a cracker.

Don't go into Evo ownership with your eyes closed. Horror stories of 4500 mile services are true until the 03 models, after that I think it is every 8k. Fuel consumtion is horrific if you enjoy yourself, which you will, it's an Evo FFS!!

I'd have one in a second if I really needed a 4 door car. 2 things would stop me however. The GF H A T E S them, as do ALL women, and insurance, in Liverpool, me, 32, 4 yrs NCB, will still struggle to get a quote under £2800.

But nothing on the road, and I mean nothing, has the all weather and cornering ability of a well sorted EVO, and the steering is brilliant, quickest i've ever experienced.

There are downsides though, carjacking is a risk if you aren't a big ugle c*nt like me, as is general theft. Thet attract a huge amount of attention for such an innoccuous looking thing, although they do have much more presence when viewed in the metal.

If you are preared for the downsides, owning an Evo is something everyone should do once, I just have never got round to it, though god knows I have been close on several occasions, only horrific insurance has stopped me.

On final note, how about a Scoob WR1, and get 'that' noise too 169144-ok.gif

I got a quote for an FQ300 and it was £816 with all the bits, ie protected no claims, etc etc.

I've heard about the horrible service intervals and such like......

Mrs Wife doesn't like Scoobs because of the bonnet scoop and much prefers the innocuous looking evo smile.gif

The technology in the new evo ROCKS. the super AYC keeps the car so planted around a corner you would not believe it. Be prepared to have your organs sold for the upkeep such as servicing, £1 a litre super unleaded etc. But they are such an emotive car.

Aye, pay 97p per Super L for the R32, so I'm used to that part of the running cost but I'm guessing the Evo would suck a wee bit more juice than the R32.

Servicing would be more expensive but then again the fun would be multiplied by many times compared to the R32.

..... need to think on it long and hard smile.gif

Had my evo 8 3 years and fairly well modded, love the looks the power everything about it , i will keep modding and no plans of sellin it, yes cost a lot to run, but in my eyes worth every penny ! If you are worried about running costs, then you just may have to settle for a slower car, all cars with this sort of performance are expensive to run !
