LeeST
I have got a 2001 A4, I noticed today a funny smell, on closer inspection the passenger footwell is soaked through with water. I cant exactly see where it is coming from, as only the flat part of the floor is wet, but it does feel moist where the carpet goes up behind the glovebox. Im going to have to phone Audi up to book it in, but does anyone have any ideas on where it is coming from?
Tobes49
Could be the pollen filter leaking water in? The holes blocked for the bulkhead drain? Might also be the air-con drains blocked? there are some things it could be
stratty31
GET THIS TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!! It will be your pollen filter leaking. The water goes under the carpet, and comes up through it..so the underside of the carpet will be sopping with water..unfortunately thats not the worst of it..the Convenience Control Unit is situated under the passenger side front carpet in a plastic box..you will find this full of water, and probably find the multiplugs green and corroded....does the central locking/windows and alarm work ok?..i hope the car is in warranty...the carpets will need to come out to dry properly Good luck P.S. I saw one in the winter, on a freezing cold morning, that was a block of ice when i lifted the carpets!!!!!
Chillihead
There is a mention of this in another topic post. I had this on my old A3, all that had happened was leaves in the drain for the engine bay. Hope all is well.
Funki
I had exactly the same thing. I managed to solve it though! The pollen filter is just like any other filter, it is porus and so if water pours onto it, its gonna get through! What causes the water to pour onto the pollen filter? For me it was a fouled seal at the bottom of the windscreen (which runs the entire length of the bottom of the windscreen) where the grey plastic from where the windscreen wipers protrude (does this have a proper name???) meets the windscreen glass. As there wasn't a proper seal between the two pieces, water would trickle onto the pollen filter (which was always wet when the incidents happened) and flooded the footwell. And yes, the central locking/hazard lights ecu was soaked and a lot of frightening things happened but the good news is that when the water fully dries off, everything should return to normal as it did for me
LeeST
Thanks guys Finally got in touch with Audi this morning, It is going in on the 16th August for it looking at, also i have asked for the drivers side wheel bearing checking. It hopefully should be covered under the Audi approved used scheme as i have only had it 3 months. To be honest im getting a bit fed up of things that have gone wrong with this car now, i have gone from Ford ownership to Audi in the hope that the build quality would shine through. This will be its 8th visit to an Audi dealer now If i wanted a car with this much to go wrong i would have bought an Alfa. See what happens when it goes in, oh yeah i have asked for another car this time (i normally struggle without) what cars do they give out? Cheers
