Thorburn
It took me a good 4 or 5 weeks and to choose the MX-5, and I'd been toying with the idea of replacing the Fiesta for months. In that time I managed to test drive..... Peugeot 306 GTI-6 Ford Focus 1.8 Mk5 Ford Fiesta Zetec-S Mk6 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 Ford Puma 1.7VCT Then following that line testing a range of hatchbacks by taking the logical step of buying an MX-5 on eBay having never even seen it let alone driven it and based pretty much entirely off MrMe's recommendation! Thorburn
Go drive a good condition 1.7 Most fun you could have for under £5000 I reckon without going for an older (pre-2000) car.
Pincher
I meant to ask earlier - what sort of price do you think I should be looking to get this for. I have my LC to trade in (approx £8K), so just wondering how far i should push, should i decide that it's the one for me. I have a figure in mind and know that the 2nd hand market is a bit slow at the moment, so guess i have the upper hand when it comes to negotiations?? Pincher
I'm back!! Had a drive - lovely! Power delivery was very smooth, not as punchy as the Leon (obv. due to no turbo). Clutch was a bit notchy but i put that down to the fact that as it has so few miles, it hasn't loosened up yet. The noise is fantastic - we went through an empty trading estate - salesman telling me to drop it to 2nd and keep it there - beautiful!! Also liked the colour very much - fairly purple-y in the flesh. Have put some pics up here , but they don't really do it justice. I quite like that fact that it is more of a stealth colour than the usual DBP. Croydon on a Sunday lunchtime isn't the ideal place to test but we did go down some back roads and it felt very agile. Dealer offered my £7200 for mine in part-ex and after some persuasion, upped it to £8500, which is pretty much what I can hope for privately. I reckon with a little bit of sweet talking, he could possibly go another £500 - £750 lower, but I'm not very good at all this negotiation business Front bumper needs a re-spray as it has a few chips, depsite only having 6500 on the clock, which he has said would get done. Alloys have no marks on them and the tyres look good for another 10K or so. I think the salesan got confused over the dates as he said they would arrange for it to have its first service before it left them. Didn't really occur to me until I was driving home that it's almost 2 years old, so I will have to check to make sure that it has already been serviced once. Hasn't had the 6463 upgrade,so would want that done as well. So if I can get him down another £500, that would make it £18,500 all in (as he has quoted about a grand over Glass's Guide on the part-ex) - is that a good deal at the moment? How much more do you reckon I should push for?
NewNiceMrMe
Always go high. Push high, and keep to it (making sure they know you'll deal there and then if they'll do it). If they can't do it, they'll hopefully show a sign of where they can meet...and of course you need to go in a good amount above that! It's a painful process, but I love every second of it. I can only see one slide in the Photobucket slide show, then it gives an error? I use Photobucket myself too, have all the pics been uploaded yet? Thorburn
Looks really nice! Gotta say even though everyone raves about them I've never really looked at a R32 since they were so far out my price range, but it should be a brilliant replacement for the Cupra
NewNiceMrMe
Yes, I like the look of that! I like the colour too! It looks to be in extremely good condition from the photo's.
RossG
Looks lovely It's the noise of the R32 that does it for me. Makes me go all wobbly What can I do to stop Mrs RossG hating them?

[/ QUOTE ] It's got less than 7000 miles, so it should do!! They said they would repaint the front bumper which has some stonechips. Salesman said it wasn't worth touching up - quicker and more effective to repaint. If I do get it, first 'mod' would be armourfend I think (or a recommended equivalent). Having driven it and then had time to reflect, I think I prefer the Indigo to the DBP
apreading
Looks very nice - far more stealthy than any other R32 I have seen. I love the lighter blue normally but IMO it makes the R32 stand out as a target alot more, whereas this looks more stylish and less 'max power'.
