Hi Neimad....we obviously agree with each other. The point you make about us balancing our needs is a very good one and it's perhaps the reason why the Mk5 GTI won its Car Of The Year Award beating all sorts of exotic and expensive automobiles....Why? Because it is such an excellent and balanced mixture of so many needs. Other cars may be more whatever but they don't have etc etc....As JC correctly pointed out: "No matter how you cut it, the GTI is either brilliant or excellent in every single area."

If VW consciously set out to equal the reputation so well deserved by the GTI Mk1, they have totally succeeded.

Hi Chaps,

I tend to agree, I've ordered a DSG even though I love manuals, why ? Cause its the closest you get to all things. An auto for the sleepy morning trundle to work, a manual override when you need to quickly drop a gear to get past someone, OR a normal manual with a quick shift when your out at the weekend for a blast-about!

Seems to be the best of both worlds, and every review on TG or 5thG of a car with DSG fitted says its fantastic. I wonder how it impact residuals, will people think "oh no an auto" or "brilliant, a DSG!" confused.gif

Hi Scott....So when do we get our backhanders from VW for our free advertising and promotion of DSG?

Re residuals....I think it will take a long time for people to accept how good DSG is until they take a test drive. My first DSG drive was in a Mk5 TDI - A car which Captain Sensible would have preferred for me to have bought.

It's being able to switch mode instantly while driving that I find so useful and safe.
