JimD
I'm new to this so I hope I get this right. Have just bought a 2001 Passat TDi and want to change the timing belt. Have done this with previous cars with the aid of a Haynes Manual but alas no manual for the 2001 model - any advice?

Wobby
Is it a PD engine?? If it is you should listen to the above for definate. All the front of the car has to come off, headlights, radiator, all the front!! I have done plenty of belts but i left mine to someone else. Because of all the work needed to get to the belt, make sure you or the garage have a full ramp system as its best to have the ability to lift the car up and down whilst doing the work (apparently ) A local diesel timing belt specialist near to me wont touch Passat PD engines as they dont have full ramps, they said it takes too long without ramps and you can get it wrong easier! Post how you get on with it! Make sure they check the water pump at the same time and replace it if necessary. This is if its a PD engine RobK
