neo283
[ QUOTE ] get a loan and buy an S3 [/ QUOTE ] Tee hee! Good call. 1.8T will NEVER keep up with a scooby. Still a better car though.
a3newbie
got a loan for the a3 cant quite afford as much as an s3 i might not be able to keep up but i might be able to get close he is only running about 280bhp i can chip the 1.8T and get it too about 200bhp or i can change the turbo for a jabba hybrid roller bearing turbo but not sure how much bhp that will do at the moment. i thought i might get some help though instead of being mocked. Simonl
...see it as initiation! welcome to TSN. On a more serious note though, you'd have to spend thousands making your 1.8T keep up with a scoob... and you'd never recoup any of it!
Wallachie
[ QUOTE ] i thought i might get some help though instead of being mocked. [/ QUOTE ] It's just a bit of craic mate, everyone gets a bit of a slagging on here, you'll soon see that! The guys were only pointing out the facts, a 1.8T will never be a match for an Impreza in performance terms - I have a remapped S3 and was blown away by a frog eyed WRX a few months ago! Don't take it personally!
Simonl
Mate, you can big up an early scoob (albeit a leggy one) for the same price as a 1.8T, maybe even cheaper!
a3newbie
scoob cost too damn much to insure cos of being classed as imports and i dont wanna be the same as him i prefer the german engineering to the jap engineering. so is there still any ideas what i should go for even if i dont keep up with him i`d like to give him a bit off a run for his money some one must be abl to give me a clue. oh yeah sorry about the previous most i forgot to put a smiley face in before i posted it got a bit keyboard happy so to speak
Pontio
theres a guy on audi sport that has a fwd 1.8T running 320bhp, has the jabbasport ihi conversion. i'd guess that'll keep up with a scoob if your good at launching, only in a straight line though. cerbera
A3newbie - welcome to TSN You'll have far more chance keeping up with the faster cars through the twisties with these Brembos than any 'speed upgrade'.... If you're going to uprate the BHP then I'd suggest upgrading the brakes anyway (blatant plug aside!). Good luck JT
a3newbie
ah nice plug nothing like a good hard sales pitch im not the sort of person who worries about stopping though as long as i can get close to my mate thats what will put a smile on my face and wipe his off. That jabba sport conversion is the one im looking at most likely doesnt come cheap but might be worth it.
Pincher
Wouldn't the cost of the conversion and extra insurance premium (I assume you will be declaring it, right?) bring you up close to the cost of an S3??

Hopsta
Where's that plug graphic gone JT is right, once you've upped the power you're really going to need better stopping power as the standard A3 brakes barely cope as it is, more power and some enthusiastic driving and you'll be lobbing seats out just to lighten the car! Graham PS.. Usual commission JHT
a3newbie
ah yes loose the seats now there`s an idea the lighter the beta any way all joking aside the seats will stay in. Sorry JHT i still cant afford that my a3 cost me 5K the turbo conversion will cost another 2K which will make it cheaper than your S3 and more powerful
