UBM
Now the text! So, Roger dropped the car of about 1 hour late. I needed to move it from the main reception area to the empty part of the car park. So, unlockes with the key and got in. Tried to put the key - took a minute to realise where the key went. Tried to start it up "Put your foot on the clutch" says th colour DIS. So I did and then it started. Put it in gear and tried to pull off. Where's the handbrake? Found it - electronic! "Put your foot on the brake" says the colour DIS and off it comes! ANyway, managed to move it! Negotiated a meeting mid-afternoon and took it for a spin. Servotronic steering very noticeable and almost like steering on ice at low speeds! Colour DIS great! Sat Nav and MMI very easy to use. Bose great too! Car feels quite heavy but good road holder (almost as heavy as the cab!). The 2.7TDI engine has some serious poke! Great for overtaking! Quite a comfy ride but a bump bumpy atg times and floaty! Needs to S-line me thinks!
NewNiceMrMe
The centre information console (?) looks very nice indeed. Very clear, unfussy and I like the reddish coloured text.
UBM
Indeed Mr Me - I found the MMI much easier to use than the one in the BMW 5-Series 535D we had in Germany!
jimdiesel
MMI is great. Having lived with it for a year now, Id find it hard to go back to anything else. What did you think of the refinement UBM? Did you listen to the engine at idle from outside the car?
jimdiesel
With regards to the handbrake, as long as you have your seatbelt on, it disengages automatically. It also includes a hillholder function for effortless hill starts. Though I must admit it suits the tiptronic transmission like mine, rather than the manual. Insurance Jon
I'm driving a 3.2 one at the moment whilst the a8 is in dry dock and it's perect apart from the american style cheaper plastic than usual, but that said the controls a very ergonomically placed. ubm - how do you turn the seatbelt binger off? UBM
Not sure mate - you tried putting your seatbelt on? The A4 detects anything remotely heavy on the passenger seat and sets the binger off!

Very little clatter on start up and you can tell it is a V6! Lovely and smooth! Have to agree with Jon, the interior looks a little cheap in places! jimdiesel
Agree the plastics are less plush than previous cars, but this is because of stricter recycling laws that are coming into force. All the manufactures are suffering, though it is most noticable on Audis, due to there high standards.
jimdiesel
[ QUOTE ] ubm - how do you turn the seatbelt binger off? [/ QUOTE ] Once again new EEC laws. All new cars sold in the EEC have to have the seatbelt bonger. There is no driver accesible way to disable it.
Paul
im sure there may be a vagcom way. the 2.7tdi replace the 2.5 tdi then? I did not know they existed. Thought it was just the 2.0 and 3.0 tdi now. Obviously not.
