RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] not at all, it was merely what your previous post deserved [/ QUOTE ] ....Read it again mate!! You interpreted LeMan's words as you wanted to interpret them and ignored what he meant - merely to tease you. Your shoot up stuff was amusing and clever but. Still, it is easy for any of us to misinterpret written words without the benefits of voice tone and body language.
WhiteHArtMart
Getting back to earlier comments in this thread and having owned a Sportback for a year - I say get the Golf!!! Don't get me wrong, the Audi has been a cracking car - great quality etc. It does everything it should really well and is a great distance eater - it's just it doe so without stirring my emotions! The Golf left me with a big smile on my face! I did try a A3 2.0T Quattro - but that still didn't come close to the Golf in driving enjoyment! Well after that - I guess I've got a cat in hells chance of selling my A3 on here!!
AlanH
Of course John Lennon also said "I am the Eggman...I am the Walrus", although what that has to do with the price of cars I have no idea Anyway, in 4 years time, we'll all be queuing up to order the new Mk6 GTi. They'll be like gold dust, dealers will sneer at demands for discounts and decent p/x prices, petrol will be £2 a litre, and anyway we'll all be dead from some weird Asian flu variant. DB6Vantage
[ QUOTE ] The Golf left me with a big smile on my face! [/ QUOTE ] That is exactly what happened to me when I tested the car! Im getting really carried away with thr GTi...checking out pics, reading on the forum, etc...I might place an order by the end of next week. Neimad
[ QUOTE ] I was proposed the new R32 by the garage, but I think that is going a little to far...and Its already hard to justify the GTi to my better half... [/ QUOTE ] Firstly, don't forget about the Mk4 R32 -- that was and still is a superb car, and it certainly looks better than the new Mk5 R32. I believe they also made them available with DSG outside the UK (well, certainly in Germany) if you want a car with that transmission (and who could blame you?). Also, if you're not opposed to the idea then why not consider the Mk5 4Motion TDI -- great fuel economy, a decent amount of power, huge amounts of torque, and all wheel drive -- I'm pretty sure you can get DSG for it too! ... Or you could just buy the GTI... Out of interest, would anyone with a DSG equipt car mind looking in the destructions to see what (if anything) it says about driving in snow/bad conditions? [/ QUOTE ] oh yes please! I did think about the MkV 4motion TDi. My A4 estate is a 1.9 TDi Quattro and I am very happy with it. Fuel economy is great. The only excuse I have for myself is that the 4motion TDi does not come with DSG, or at least not in Switzerland. It seems to be that ity either 4motin or DSG at the moment. Besides im not sure the TDi gives one the same grin on the face when you drive it...

scotw
I test drove the A3 2.0 Sport and the ride is unbearable (IMHO), the Golf was second choice for me, and once Id driven a GTi I knew how bad the ride is on the A3 - go for the Golf. With FWD I think snow driving will be just fine, but if you are really concerned get an R32, or you could compromise and get a new GT, 170bhp and 39mpg might be a nice mix and it should handle as well as the GTi & DSG will be available. JaxA3
I am trading my 4 month old A3 2.0 FSI in for the GTI and taking a huge knock on the trade in. But hell, we only live once. These cars can not be compared.
