Mook
Scanning t'Interweb for some other stuff and came across this monster intercooler. The bonnet (or "hood") is so far out of my taste zone, but holy sh*t, didn't know you could fit that much extra metal behind the lower front grill: Although I'm sure Helfinger will show us an even more ridiculously sized i/cooler at the R32 meet this weekend... v6tas
yep really looking forward to seeing Hellfingers ride, should be an eye opener by all accounts !!!
FiftyPence
I think that is quite possibly a 1.8T with an R-esque front bumper. note that the new StreetWerkes turbo kit for the R32 which is by all accounts superior to the EIP kit and the HPA kit so far. It will be open to the US owners by December and there are no plans to market the kit in the UK although Jason has commented that he may be willing to send over a kit and through contacts of Awesome-GTI get a RHD compatible kit out in the public domain. BigMeanBob
At the moment I'm still thinking that supercharging is the way to go. All the talk on the forums seems to suggest that the car with supercharger drives very similarly to the stock car, just with a whack more power. The power delivery is more linear. Guys that have driven any turbo modifications seem to think that it changes the car's delivery somewhat. I've kinda gotten used to the more linear power of the NA engine and do wonder if going turbo would be too much of a shift. There is no doubt that the turbo kits are getting far more power out of the engine than the SC kits, but the VF kit (at least in america) is far more tried and tested than any of the turbo conversions. b0b
Mook
Having driven the s/charged version Bob, I would agree that the power delivery is totally linear and never ending...

Woppum
Helfinger are you going to patch up the side front grills or leave the hardcore piping for show? I cant decide whether it looks unfinished or has a certain modded appeal, like those American hot rods with the engines sticking out the bonet Whatever Im sure it is a beast and Im very jealous so enjoy. O and im awaiting a review
helfinger
i will be posting a full review and pics, sound clips etc by the end of next week. I have the grills back in place now for a more stealth look.....are you going to donington?
Calm Chris
I'd be worried about the perfect pebble, That one that get's thrown up by a lorry, it's travelling at 70mph towards you. You're being illegal, that's a 2xx velocity. I hope the grills are more than .25 tin or it's a tow home and no change out of, what?? a grand? Mook
Surely exactly the same problem exists for the radiator, the lower half of which sits behind the same grill. In all the stupid amount of miles I've done in the last blah years, I have never ever had a radiator cracked by a stray pebble, despite losing four windscreens, one of which was due to a brick coming off the back of a builders truck while I was doing 75 There is no specific tech info on www.vf-engineering.com about the manufacture of the i/cooler, but the stuff that is on there reads: VF-Engineering VW Stage 2/3 Kits use an all aluminium precision-manufactured air to air intercooler. Mass manufacturing techniques mean presentation and quality are of the highest standards known in the aftermarket industry. Intercoolers are sized for overkill to reduce air flow restriction and leave room for upgradeability by means of boost increases. I think your piping up a non-issue here Chris. Mook
Don't think so. It's the windscreen that smashed, not the front of the bonnet. Unless these things automatically protect the windscreen as well... Thanks to Helfinger's www.autobra.co.uk web site for the pic
helfinger
they are there to deflect small stones and also to stop the bra from flapping around at high speeds
Mook
I guessed that the "sticky-up bits" on the bra were to weigh it down. Not sure how effective they would be at deflecting small stones from hitting the windscreen (I guess you can let us know Tom), but I have always assumed that protecting the front of the bonnet was the main job of it. As for builders' bricks hitting the car...
helfinger
it really does save your bonnet......each to his own.. also i think it makes it look even more agressive from the front.... as shown in this pic
Mook
Totally agree with you about the aggresive stance, the debadged front grill really helps this as well. Oh, and look, there's a Cupra chin spoiler on the front of that one as well...
Craigieboy
Could be ordering one of these as well when I get back off holidays.
