AlanH
TomTomGo is basically a GPS satnav device. By downloading and adding the safety camera database it allows a visual notification of speed camera sites in the UK. It doesn't actively detect speed cameras from their output, or tell you if the cameras are "live". However, if I was travelling in France, I would make sure to disable the camera warning function completely - the gendarmes are particularly hot on anything thay consider to be a camera warning device, even if it's only GPS-based and not an actual detector. RedRobin
And what the feck is the fecking gendarmes problem?!! Do they also not have road signs as you approach their cameras? We are talking SAFETY cameras here!! [Not ranting at you Alan!] If they are going to be like that then I shan't be readjusting my Xenons before passing through their country on my way to Switzerland. Full beam all the way - Burn! Arrogant French Barstewards! Burn! Anyone know the score in Belgium and Germany? I'll drive another route!!

mu71rd
I'm sorry Red - Speed cameras are for making money, and speed camera warning devices are for avoiding having to pay it! that's why they're illegal on the continent. have a read of the article in my earlier post to see the stats about how 'safe' they are. RedRobin
I naively thought that money-box speed cameras were ALSO installed for good safety reasons. Yes, Thanks I have now read your link and a further page from it. Useful knowledge.
AlanH
Interesting article. Sorry to hear of the death of LJK Setright - one of Car magazine's best writers, for anyone who can remember that far back.
