I'm sure we've had this question a million times.

However, Vauxhall Cavalier, 1.3L, 4 door, metallic brown, 1977/78 plate I think. It was bloody awful.

Sounds achingly close to my first car.

Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 1.3L 1979 (V reg) Maroon.

I loved that car - it was my first car, it's the law.

I bought it for £250 in 1990 and it only had 33,000 miles on it. Slow as a slow thing on national go slow day, but didn't stop me hammering it everywhere.

Was gutted when my Grandma gave me a 1978 (T reg fiesta) and I had to get rid of the comfy 4-door saloon. mad.gif

After the MKi fiesta, I had a MKII XR2, then another Cavalier (2.0L H reg)

Then a 306 XSi (P reg)

Golf MKIV GTi 1.8 (S reg)

Golf MKIV GTi 1.8T (T reg) (the above was delevered in error so the dealer let us keep it until the 'proper' GTi turned up)

02 TT 225C (Still got)

Golf MKIV V5

Audi A4 Saloon 1.9TDi

Audi A4 Avant 2.5 V6 TDi (still got)

black mini 1000 Y reg.

Chavved it up to Cooper Spec, tuned engine etc. Did 30,000 miles in 18 months in it and it never missed a beat - apart from the usual sill welding, subsequent respray, oh and the front n/s wheel falling off whilst driving along one day!!!! Good old drum brakes all round stopped any damage though! shocked.gif

Qulaity car! 169144-ok.gif

My first regular drive was a company car, an Escort 1.4L with a Webber carb somehow attached to it. Went like a rocket for a 1.4, but drank as much oil as petrol, and suffered from clots in the oil delivery lines to the top of the block. Gearbox linkage also used to fall out, and the brakes were shocking. Oh, and it was rusty, but you expect that from an Escort.

My first car was an 11 month old Cavalier 1.7 TDI LS. Ex-rental car bought expressly to do lots of cheap miles; bought it with 19,000 on it and sold it just over two years later with more than 120,000 on it.

My first car was a '73 Jeans Beetle 1303s, left hand drive. My dad painstakingly restored that thing for about 18 months until I had passed my test and could drive it about. My mother wrote it off after hitting a bus shelter and telephone box. Guy responsible for the accident was foundto be way over the limit and confessed liability. Lucky she wasnt injured! Car came off quite badly but nothing compared to the phone box and bus shelter.

Mine was an E-reg Kingfisher Blue, Citroen AX 11TRE with a beige/brown interior. Belonged to my Mum and she only used it to go 5 mins to the shops and back. Parents gave it to me when I passed my test with only 28,000 on the clock after 10 years!!! Within one month it was debadged and lowered with a grey primered AX GT bodykit that never got body-coloured, AX GT alloys, peco big-bore exhaust, pipercross bolt-on, bosch super 4's, racing coil, momo everywhere, etc, etc, etc. It was my pride and joy, went through 3 engine rebuilds and 2 gearboxes. I still have it now in my garage with a MkII RS2000 Professionals stylie, can't bring myself to get rid of it as yet, feel I owe it something. Will probably cry when it finally goes!!! frown.gif

My first car was a MK2 fiesta with the 1400 CVH escort engine, that twin Weber was very handy for overtaking, but was forever clogging up. It was a propper little rocket but the gearchange was like stirring porridge. Thing was though, she came fitted with a pair of factory Carrello spotlamps that were dammned effective at illuminating country lanes.

The end came when the rust had devoured 90% of the car and a driveshaft broke

My 2nd (and current) car is a metro 1.1 S, The engine screams its way to 6k RPM and corners on damp days are great, you just drift arround them!

A brand new Citroen Saxo 1.1 (it made sense at the time as they were offering 2 years free insurance!! They must have been mad.)

Rather embarrassingly I promptly wrote the the car off in spectacular fasion about 6 months after passing my test - putting the free fully comp insurance to good use!
