aaabbb
Has anyone owned a 1.8tmk4 golf 150bhp? If so what is the average mpg and what is the average mpg for a 130bhp 1.9tdi?
Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke aaabbb I've had both, so (driving both sensibly) the 1.8T will return around 35 mpg, the TDI will return about 55 mpg. Expect the 1.8T to drop to mid 20s with hard driving and the TDI to drop to mid 30s. HTH
aaabbb
Thinking about buying one of the above. Dont know which one to buy. Insurance is about the same and they cost about the same just thinking about running costs. Think it might be 1.8t if it gets 35mpg when cruising and they are more reliable. aaabbb
which would u reccommend
activa
Is the insurance to expensive on a 150 1.9tdi? If not, then that could be the answer. Faster than the 1.8T petrol(in most real world conditions),55mpg on a run,40+ when driving hard. Whichever you choose they should be reliable! aaabbb
its £600 more dearer than a 1.8t although it has the same poer output so the 150 pd is out of the question
activa
Never realised the p155 take insurance company would put that kind of premium on a 150 version, jokers! If you don't do that many miles then I'd get the petrol version,if you do,get the diesel which won't be that far behind it!
Mook
I disagree Activa - get the diesel every time. You will get 50% better mpg and the retained value of the diesel will be much higher when you come to sell it, which is why the diesel is more expensive now. That and the fact that the 130 diesel is almost as quick as the 150 petrol. All the hype about buying diesel only if you do higher mileage is only applicable when the car is new, as the manufacturers demand a higher premium. On a second hand car, the servicing costs are about the same. Have fun, whichever option you choose
pingpongpo
+Diesel = Awesome 30-70 range
R32North
Aye, unless you have 200hp or more, I'd opt for the diesel. REmap and 130 or 150hp diesel and you have a very quick thru-the-gears car. Much better then a petrol and it will still return good mpgs!
shao_khan
I have had a 180bhp 1.8T Golf Anniversary and 130Bhp Bora TDi. Gofl averaged I would guess 29 - 32, Bora averaged 45 so big difference. All I would say is that I prefer the 130tdi to the 150 tdi, and if I were to buy another MK4 i'd have another anniversary as residuals seem to be holding extremely well.
