Don't go to Dubai if you want an activity holiday or for any history, only go if you want to laze by the pool and catch some rays in a splendid setting with superb service.

Totally agree, Wild Wadi is superb water park, the big slide (can't remember the name!!!) is awesome.

VERY good point to make. It has to be one of the dullest and unappealing places i have ever been in my life. But the service is impeccable (sp?!!) so for relaxing and being treated like a king and queen, you will be pushed to beat it. cool.gif169144-ok.gifbeerchug.gif PS - you HAVE to visit WildWadi water park..... grin.gif

Don't apologise, its a great thread wink.gif

Have a look at this http://uk.weather.com/weather/climatology/AEXX0004

Looks like October will be pretty hot. Would recommend JBH for kids especially with free entry to Wild Wadi next door, free shuttle to Mall of Emirates if you want to Ski plus all the usual pools etc. You even get free ice lollies brought round when you are lounging by the pool !

You'll all heart.gif it.

Cheers A4. WHat is Ski Plus. Is there a good website to get some decent deals there

[/ QUOTE ]

Ooops, poor punctuation should have read "want to Ski, plus pools...."

I was referring to Ski Dubai, an indoor Ski centre.

Not sure about deals, we booked it all thru Kuoni. Its certainly not a cheap place to be, prices are similar to UK.

Without the kids, the Ritz Carlton is the one to go for, someone mentioned the Club Level and this is certainly the one to go for, free food and booze all day long. The hotel is a lot smaller than most but has everything you need.

Yup, I think it was me smile.gif

We love it there, amazing service and very English gentlemans club. As much as I like the Burj, I find that a little OTT, a little flash. Although we've only eaten there and have never actually stayed there, tbh.

I also agree that Dubai is very much a relaxation holiday. There are things to do, such as Wild Wadi and Desert Safari and although they're fun they're not going to suit the "camping in rainforests and trekking" holiday type people.

We found the nightlife to be very good, although be warned that some clubs are fairly picky on who they let in and will quite often let (fit) girls in, but not blokes if they are "full". You must try a Turtle if you go there, I may have the name wrong but it's every clear spirit, some whisky, blue curaco and a can of Red Bull 169144-ok.gif

It's that time of the year when I know the shorts won't be allowed out again for many months so I'm looking to go back to Dubai next month.

For ease, I would have booked back in at the Royal Mirage but they are having "safety issues" with small children and balconies - which is enough to keep me away EEK2.GIF

Couple of option are presenting themselves, but I've not heard much about them - Dar Al Masyaf at the Madinat Jumeirah (which seems to be the same site as the Mina A' Salam).

I see that people rate the Mina A' Salam, but looking at the sheer size of the resort, is it any good?

Any other help would be appreciated, I'm trying to aviod high rise hotel (however nice) and tending towards a ground floor room (for the young lad)in a more personal resort type place.

Cheers all,

Ben

Ben,

My mate stayed there for a few nights just after it opened. He says it was a great place and they really enjoyed it. Its connected to Wild Wadi. It also has lots of restaurants and the service around the place was pretty cool.

You use water taxis to get around the place so not sure if this would be an issue with a small one in tow.

Cheers

This extract from Dubai Met office off of Dubai Airport webshite.

November

Temperatures continue to fall sharply during the month with mean maximums now around 30°C. As the subtropical jet moves southwards and upper level winds over the Gulf strengthen there is the increased potential for low pressure systems to propagate from the North and West into the area. Late in the month it is possible for the first Shamals to affect the Gulf but it is not usually until December that unsettled weather reaches the region. Again November 1997 was an exceptional year with twelve rain days including four thunderstorm days producing 31 mm of rain at Dubai International Airport. In 2004 a severe line squall and thunderstorm brought heavy rain (24 mm) and a hail storm that produced stones of up to 1.5 cm in diameter.

December

By the end of the year winter systems are more frequently affecting the Emirates, the mean monthly rainfall is 14 mm with rain reported on three or four days during the month. Mean maximums have fallen to 26°C with minimum’s typically around 16°C. The humidity is frequently high in the early morning hours with fog still causing a problem, although Dubai and the Northern Emirates tend to be a little less humid than other areas of the country. Occasionally persistent periods of unsettled and wet weather can affect Dubai in December. Rainfall totals have been as high as 130 mm with a 24 hour maximum rainfall of 73 mm. Sea temperatures fall to around 23°C

I went to Dubai 2 years ago at the end of Nov/beginning of Dec. Daytime temps were about 90 degrees and the evenings were warm enough to wear short sleeves.

I'm going again next Saturday grin.gif and texted my brother (who lives out there) about current temps and he said it's still about 37 degrees during the day 169144-ok.gifcool.gif

They have about 2 days of rain per year, and I was unlucky enough to be there for one of them when I last went mad.gifROLLEY~14.GIF
