ian_m
I was joking re the "problem" remark and dont worry, I have those issues too!!! I dont give out speeding tickets, I dont stand on the side of a road with a speed gun and I hate camera vans

ian_m
I could start a whole new thread on those things!!! Lets just say that I dont agree with the whole Speed detection subject, better?
RedRobin
Phew!! I actually support Safety Cameras as a means of slowing vehicles in blackspots or urban environments to protect children and pedestrians, but those speed gun guys are just sneaky! It should be all about road safety and standard of driving and not just stealing your money. Back on topic: I believe that insurance can be reduced if the driver has got through certain recognised advanced driving tests.

mixit
[ QUOTE ] it certainly is!!! Hence me not liking one of the comments in a different thread Why? is there a problem [/ QUOTE ] Jeez... ere we go... What exactly is the 159 MPH quip all about then under your avatar? Condone that sort of thing do you? ... No wait... Yes, of course you do because you're T R A I N E D in car "familiarisation".... Best not get too many people started here mate. I can see there would almost certainly be a problem, even if you meant it as a joke or not. Let’s hope you’re not “Milton”.
RedRobin
Let's NOT let this get out of hand. Just because a guy is a policeman doesn't mean it's fair game to let loose on one person because of all the gripes one might have about 'Mr. Plod'. Give the guy a break....He's a very longstanding TSN member and I'm sure others can vouch for him as being genuinely sympathetic to 'drivers' like most of us. silentandy
Agreed with Red. A_S is a well respected member of these forums and is as much a driver and car enthusiast as the rest of us. Comments like that aren't needed.
mixit
Sorry, but the location comment under the Avatar is a red rag to a bull. Anyone "fleeced and pointed" for speeding will understand my displeasure at being reminded of the antics of said PC Mark Milton. It's one rule for us and one for them. Some might say MY avatar is in poor taste, but a good majority would have smiled at it. This isn't a personal attack on A_S, it’s just time this government and police forces across the country recognised the groundswell of ill feeling towards the police in general. Whilst idiots like Milton get away with blatant law breaking and speed detection devices become ever more covert and prolific, the general public are supposed to just lay down and put up with it…. … Yes I know… etc, etc …… I'll get my coat. Simonl
I think Smitten is as anti camera as the rest of us mate. most bobbies would rather see more police on the streets than cameras by the road. nice avatar BTW!
RedRobin
Don't worry Mixit....You don't have to get your coat! Your feelings are very valid - It's simply that Smitten individually doesn't deserve being treated like....whatever. Who knows, if we are really nice to him in this forum he might get interested in swopping his Audi for a new GTI.
scotw
Quite right, its not the police we have to blame for the cameras its our Goverment and Mr Blair We'd soon be in a mess without the police - I could happily live with less politicians though. ian_m
Mixit, Its comments like yours above that make me wonder why I let people know what I do, although the majority of the members on here are fine with it (infact I think you are the first to react like a 2yr old ) The line under my Avatar is purely meant as a J-O-K-E I am as anti speed detection as any other but I really dont need to justify myself, I am just dissapointed that you want Slag me off without knowing anything about me Ah well, I will stay out of the Gti forum, no offence to the rest of you, although you seem to have taken the line under a feckin avatar as it was meant, JUST A JOKE
Mollox
Mixit, I think your comments are out of place. Have a look around Tyresmoke and you'll soon notice that A_S is a top chap. He's been here a long time, he's travelled a long way to make a number of arrests (sorry, meets ) and has made a very positive contribution to this community. His job is a source of humour for all of us, including A_S himself, but your comments are unfounded and not what we want to see here. [ QUOTE ] This isn't a personal attack on A_S [/ QUOTE ] That's how it reads... [ QUOTE ] it’s just time this government and police forces across the country recognised the groundswell of ill feeling towards the police in general. [/ QUOTE ] And A_S sets policy, does he? [ QUOTE ] Whilst idiots like Milton get away with blatant law breaking and speed detection devices become ever more covert and prolific, the general public are supposed to just lay down and put up with it [/ QUOTE ] Ever thought about how much the police have to put up with from idiot members of the public? I will say this - as a Tyresmoker, if you ever ask for his help, A_S will go out of his way to offer all the advice he can. That's the tyresmoke way. If you want to vent your anger at the police then please find a more appropriate channel to do so. Tyresmoke is about Joy not Doom

RedRobin
No need to stay out of this GTI forum just because of one member's remarks....We are bound to have our different opinions etc. Hopefully you'll see that a number of us here have immediately sprung to your defence and invite BOTH you and Mixit to put your handbags away and to please stay and enjoy this forum. shark_90
Quite shocked by that Mixit. We all have opinions and it was actually me who posted about the 159mph escapade of Mr Milton back when it happened, which is when A_S's quip appeared. If you do a search (because quite frankly, I can't be arsed) you could find the thread for yourself and see what A_S thought of the situation. Since meeting him back in July, Ian has become one of my closest friends, and I assure you he is a genuinely top chap, and he really does have a thing about speed detecting devices. He also has a thing about getting Ford Feckups sideways on roundabouts, but that's another story. You are obviously new here, but I'm sure you know from other people's comments that A_S is a very well respected member of this forum and we all take the mickey out of him for his job, and he gives as good as he gets. On the other hand, it can be VERY handy to have someone in the know. Basically, what I've wanted to say throughout this post is "Keep your f'king opinions to yourself," but I've refrained. You need to get to know people on here before you can even banter with them, let alone downright attack them. But anyway, enough of that. Spread the Joy!
