Brazo
Apologies about the pic quality, my digital SLR has taken a turn for the worst so I was using my wife’s point and shoot digital compact! Process Friday night wash with NXT wash and karcher foam gun. The car was left to soak for about 30 mins whilst I did the wheels and frequently blasted the car with extra foam from the foam gun to keep it soapy. Wheels weren’t too bad at all, even the insides of the rims. The owner said he cleaned them regularly which must have helped. I then ‘sponged’ off the car with a bucket of water and a Meguiars chenille wash pad. The car was actually quite clean so this whole process took no more than 45mins. Saturday morning the car was clayed again not much was found just the usual hotspots. Now that the paint was clean I took another snap. The entire paintwork was swirled but also deeply scratched. For a two year old car the paintwork was really buggered! I feel its seen far too many auto car washes in its short life! I then set about polishing the car with the Aote rotary at about 1500-1750 rpm with a Meguiars polishing pad and poorboys ssr2.5 (after ssr2 had failed!). It generally took about 2 passes to clear the swirls and scratches (although some very deep ones did remain). I constantly checked my work for holograms/micromaring with a lighting stand with the lights set at different angles. I found this helped check for holograms as well as scratches. I couldn’t find my masking tape to do a side by side comparison so have drawn a line on this pic. Left side polished. The hood after polishing with the rotary and ssr2.5. Whilst the paint was very hard I found I was leaving very few if any holograms. I believe this must have been a characteristic of the hard paint compared to the soft paint on my Toyota. After polishing with the rotary I followed up with the bitlema polisher and Meguiars #80. I really liked this polisher. It broke down the speed glaze far quicker than a pc would and it generated a significant amount of heat. The same door panel above after polishing Some of the products used And the end results after Meguiars #21 applied with a pc and a sonus blue pad and #16 applied via a megs cordless orbital buffer! That’s 4 buffers in total for this job lol!
