mb
And these are the keys you need... They are sold in 4s but you can get away with 2 - pay careful attention to the way round you insert them (it is marked on the originals) as it isn't that intuitive - do buy the OEM ones as the others are rubbish. Basically they swing inwards (towards the stereo) to catch a tiny raised peg that then pulls the latch in so you can remove the stereo. If I remember correctly they need to go in with the long side on the outside into about the cut out and then swing in. You may find it helps to remove the cupholder (2 little clips) as you can see a little better what is going on, I found it easiest to get the left side loose and then the right - there is a definite knack to it unlike teh ones that use the "VW keys" Cheers Martin
mb
Hi Al, have had a quick look at my keys - rather than look at the "knife" ends it makes more sense to use the handles as a refernce. The keys need to be inserted so the pointy bits of the handles face outwards & the rounded bits face inwards so they are comfortable for your fingers to "pivot" them together sliding the little pins across so that the clips are brought inwards to release the stereo from its cage

Smudge
Nice one, all very helpful. I've tried the keys (got the 2nd set, so the right ones) and I see what you mean about them being fiddly to get in & out, but they work fine. mb
Glad to help - once you have teh stereo out you can see how they work and then they make better sense - there is a definite knack to them. Why do you need the stereo out ? If it is for a car phone kit don't forget to wire the mute pin up before you put it all back together as this was missing on my (factory) connector. [/ QUOTE ] Gave up on the phantnoise then ! I always wondered about setting up an iPod transfer service could use a collection of MP3s so would only have to rip the rare stuff - only issue would be proof of copyright.
