NeilB
You can tell it's several drivers that do the job, as the driving styles are different. The driver of the Ascari was smooth yet some of the other cars they are sideways at nearly every corner.
AntW
Perhaps the Stig for the Isle of Man was Nigel Mansell. He lives there, is a copper there (I think), is an ex F1 driver... would probably have been up for closing the roads and would know them fairly well? jimdiesel
This is what I have been told: The Stig is not just one person. When they ran the Renault F1 car it was Heikki Kovalainen at the wheel. The majority of the time it is Ben Collins behind the wheel, however when Ben is doing his day job (Driving in the British GT Championship) they get another driver in. This could be Julian Bailey, who used to stand in for Perry Mcarthy on occasion.
simkna
Whoever it is, they must have been in a pretty serious accident at some point and lost the ability to walk - they have to wheel him around on a trolley. Si.
s4_sat
but how can he drive if he can't walk? the trolley is for the safety of the public.

AlaisterM
I was under the impression it was Perry McCarthy. (??????) Has anyone read his book 'Flat Out Flat Broke - Formula 1 the Hard Way !" http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN...6866309-1830219 Absolutely hilarious but at the same time you can't help but feel sorry for the guy.One episode in particular which he recounts in the book sticks in my mind and that is when he was due to race at the Circuit de Catalunya...but overslept and had literally had about 30 mins to get from his hotel in Barcelona to the racetrack. A really good read.

[/ QUOTE ] First Stig was Perry, but they sent him off the end of an aircraft carrier when his identity was leaked. Remember that? I think he was in an old Jag they'd been playing with. Botang
Ben Collins has appeared on the show a couple of times too, drove the Mitsi Evo, the Bowler Wildcat thingy and in the Toyota Aygo footie if I remember right.
