RedRobin
Ray West of West Tuning, Thruxton Race Circuit, fitted my Turbo-back and downpipe today and wow!! I'm very pleased . They are marketed by Milltek as Hi-flow because they very efficiently improve the exhaust flow and, as well as increasing bhp slightly they rather more dramatically improve the throttle response - at least that has been my experience after a hard 80 miles. I have kept the Non-Resonated section and quite honestly they are no louder at this stage than a Cat-back system. In fact the exhaust note is improved - noticeably more 'growly'. I'm well pleased and, as always, Ray did a great job in spite of difficulty at first removing nuts (not an uncommon fault on VeeDubs and Audis). Turbo-back and Cat-back comparison pic: View of underside plus 4WD Rolling Road capable of handling 2,700 bhp!! Biggest West Tuning have re-mapped so far is 900 bhp!! (Not a GTI). Defo the Dog's Bollox of rolling roads!

zippytwo
I'm dying to know how much this cost but seem to recall something about not being able to reveal this on the forum??? Looking at the AMD website there appears to be a free fitting offer on cat-back exhausts at the mo. Not sure if this applies to the turbo back... Red - please do keep the updates coming. GTiMK5
Nice one Red, glad you got it sorted in the end. Will be there myself tomorrow as you know cos you were there when I called.
RedRobin
Yep, I'm Mr Happy I'll clean her at the next opportunity. That pic was taken last week on another visit....She's even dirtier today after mileage in the wet on Friday. West Tuning do a free fitting as well....Any Milltek system. RedRobin
zippytwo, the reason I can't tell you the cost is because my exhaust system has been done in two separate sessions with parts changed....Too complicated to work out. Milltek's web site will give you the cost and there are some suppliers who will fit free of charge providing no extra problems.
zippytwo
Okay... Thanks.
RedRobin
Just to give you a bit more info: You'll find that Millteks are the same price whoever is supplying them and that any discount you may be offered is in labour costs installing them and/or according to what else you are buying at the time. For example, AwesomeGTI were able to give me discount cos I was also buying Abt's Holly Valance (I wish!) from them and West Tuning would most likely give you some discount if you were also having a diagnosis plus re-map in the same session....But it would be up to them and not me! All these guys are enthusiasts, care about their work and are very friendly.

jason_s
hello robin, aka mr happy !!! glad you like the turbo back. great improvement on the gti original arnt they !!! have you been on the motorway with them. will be interested to see what you think. the sound is great. much more throaty and the little pops as you change gears are much more enjoyable..... glad you like. jay
RedRobin
That's right, I liked the Cat-back sound but the Turbo-back delivers much more including that soft turbo whistle and that's with the windows closed. Really not any louder than the Cat-back but just more variety of sound, more throaty as you say and very noticeable performance increase especially throttle response - Do you find that too? Are you on Resonated now? (I've forgotten). I've been on dual carriageway stretches of 30 miles plus but only a short stretch of the M40 so far and I know how to reduce any drone. It's not the problem I thought it might be. Hi-flow defo the best to go for....You can almost feel that efficient flow! It opens her up so she breathes better. I doubt very much if I'll change to Resonated section.
jason_s
not changed yet, will do on monday. much better throttle response. do you find in "D" with paddles shifting down can take a while (think i timed it at about 1.5 sec to change down) no problem changing upa gear though. am wondering if theres a problem. will be leaving the car at rays on monday his giving me a hire car for the day. is there anything around that area to do all day? spankit
Well I just turned up, saying I wanted to have a go, was pointed to a shed where they let you take them up. However, on a good map it says intence microflight flying. Guess, find the airfield on the map (only airfield on the a303 near the m3) should give its name. Then Directories or google... RedRobin
Hi Jay....No, I don't find any serious delay on the paddles. I think that perception of it is because their feel is very soft and removed. Defo not 1.5 secs but everything the DSG does is so smooth it's easily 'lost'. RedRobin
Hey Jay! I'm going to be at West Tuning same day as you, so we'll have to line up our Quads together for a pic! I look forward to meeting another TSNer in the flesh. Of the GTI owners on TSN I've only met Jennifer and Chris so far but quite a few Audi weirdos with strange hair! Hey, Jen, are you lurking here? I'll give you another ride with my Turbo-back. Quote from my 14yo daughter: "Hey Daddy, are you really going out to meet a strange man you met on the internet!?" Talking about strangers who drive GTIs, I just passed the middle-aged (like me) driver of a local Laser Blue which has a tow-bar and got absolutely no response. We were passing in opposite directions in slow traffic through town and I flashed and thumbs up....I got eye contact but not a glimmer!! He's so obviously not a TSNer!! Blokes like that are the real weirdos!! His paintwork looks matt btw....Stupid fecker!

RedRobin
Hey Si, don't try telling everyone that it isn't you pictured in your avatar. I've met you and know that it is! I hope you're well mate Still considering a GTI? an R32? ST? Yes, it was you my daughter was referring to!
