mu71rd
brilliant analysis - exactly my thoughts. I've always maintained that manuals do afford you that extra 10% of driver control, but it's all about the whole package.
younger
I would have never considered the DSG over manual! But the test drive car at VW was a DSG..... I did ask for a manual and disappointed that this beauty in front of me was an Auto. At the first junction I jumped on the break with both feet, (making the VW guy most uneasy..) But soon I got used to the drive & loved it. Couldn’t wait three months from VW UK. So I got on the Net and found one 4K less than list price in Sheffield. It did have DSG. Every car I own from now will be DSG. So it is fair to say I love my new car.

younger
I got the Car new (55) From Motor Provider in Shefield. I paid just over 19K with an extra years warrany from RAC. The is Diamond black with cruise control, winter pack, DSG, loads of other extras. I would retail at VW for £23 and a bit. Still think DSG rocks. Vman
I too would never have considered getting an automatic DSG(, let alone a Golf GTI. But the fact is the gearbox(DSG) has totally sold me on this car. I initially had a test drive for 10mins and thought it was ok, not to bad, then the dealer lent me the car over the weekend, I ended up doing 400miles and totally enjoyed it all the time I had it. To me its the best of both worlds, fast and fun in manual driving round the country lanes of Wales and when in auto just unbelievable relaxing to drive, no getting annoyed whilst sitting in traffic jams depressing the clutch all the time.
