mooret
Had a call from my brother yesterday with some very bad news! Over Sunday night he had his place broken into whilst he was asleep upstairs and the feckers nicked the keys to his two cars. They then took his house keys and opened the garage, after locking him in. So he wakes up and finds a window forced and a missing X5 3.0D and worst of all his SL55AMG. Good job he didn't wake up as they had also stolen a shotgun and cartridges from the farm house next door BEFORE they raided his place. Its the little things that really piss you off in a situation like this. All the aggro and worst of all, the orders of service he had kept from Dads funeral 9 weeks ago. OK I can give him one of my spare copies, but its not the copy he had at the service. I just hope that these low life scum become another statistic when they kill themselves in the SL. And before you ask yes they both had trackers and the Police have stated that the X5 will be used in a ram raid and the SL probably used for a joy ride or exported. The Police also explained how these scum overcome the trackers but I am not irresponsible enough to post what they said on here. Suffice to say its very simple and I will only put a tracker on a car in the future if it is an insurance requirement.
MOSE
Bloody hell...................am sorry to hear that. I've been made aware that the Tracker systems aren't really effective anymore. Which reminds me, I got charged by them today and I havent even got the car anymore. Feckers. Hearing things like this makes me wanna puke, but it also reminds me that if someone is determined to steal somethinthey wil more than likely end up getting it. Shocking to hear that the scum were armed as well, that is very worrying.
Sponge
Sorry to hear that. Hope it all gets sorted for him. My neighbour had a close call the week before last. Someone gained entry to his house at 3am. He had fallen asleep on his sofa , only to be woken by his barking dog. When he looked up, he was confronted by a man in a baseball cap and mask stood in his living room! The intruder calmly turned around, upon discovering someone was up, and walked back out the backdoor! My neighbour, after establishing what day of the week it was , followed him, but by the time he got to the garden he had started running. He didn't pursue him any further. It's a scarey enough situation as it is, but you never know what weapons people like this are carrying!
Soapsuds
Sorry to hear this - it does seem to be getting worryingly common now..... It really makes you wonder for the safety of your home / family if you go and buy something like this. Stolen to order etc - no matter what security you have in place, if they want it, they will get it!!! Just happy no-one was physically hurt - you can replace metal......... NewNiceMrMe
Yes indeed, very sorry to hear about this. I find it quite horrifying that people are prepared to break into your home in order to steal vehicles. The fact that this people stole a shotgun beforehand is frankly terrifying. TP27
[ QUOTE ] And if caught they will get a few hours community service [/ QUOTE ] Simon, I'm with you here, totally!! Often makes me wonder why I work hard to have nice things, pay my taxes and conduct my life in a civilised manner when it might be easier to steal all the things I "want" instead? As we know, the worst case scenario in me getting caught might be a couple of weekends picking up dead leaves in the local Park!!!
MattR32
That's terrible but sounds suspiciously well planned. Have they had any work done to the house recently? I think if they were caught, they'd get a pretty harsh sentence - Theft is one thing, armed robbery is another. The Ruskies and Eastern Europeans are buying stolen flash cars in huge numbers at the moment apparently.
theduisbergkid
Not good at all. Perhaps if he had something more ordinary on the drive they would not have targeted him. This stuff is scary !
Wallachie
That's a frightening story, I hope your bro et al are all OK - that kind of event can really put people off living in their home. My old man has a locked shotgun cabinet in his bedroom back home, God knows what would happen if someone broke into his house armed, and tried to steal his or Mum's car..... TP27
I'm also slightly worried about the comment that Tracker is now easy to de-activate. I was always of a mind that it offered excellent additional security cover, especially in an expensive model.......been in all my cars so far!! Calm Chris
It's time to stop thinking like civilised people. Look, having £100k's worth of cars and I assume a reasonably large and impressive house is going to be a magnet to the local scum. A CCTV system with full colour pictures, 8 PIR activated camera's and even motion sensors with camera panning would be £2-£4k with a huge memory PC and remote broadband monitoring. Relative to the value of goods taken and the scare the event has caused, it's absolute peanuts. Long gone are the days when people who have done well, such as your brother, will be respected by the 'have nots' The other alternative is a b4stard of a dog. I am truely sorry to hear the story and it must caused a great deal of upset and anguish to the family. Let's be positive and make sure that there is unlikely to be a next time, especially if he spend some of his plentyful wedge on security that is appropriate. MattR32
Extra security is often not the answer, as I found out - It won't stop the scum threatening them for the keys will it? Wife started to get very nervous taking the R32 out after it got done over twice.
Calm Chris
Matt- I agree, but your car wasn't in your garage and they didn't steal it with a shot gun being held by one of the scum. The security is for evidence, for some peace of mind and is very appropriate if you have 2 x trophy cars and a trophy house that is the subject of chav / scum envy. Would you live in a big house and have £100k+ cars and not have further security, such as I suggest?
MattR32
My situation was quite different of course and I searched everywhere for a private garage but failed. It was fine in London where we had very secure parking. I wouldn't even consider £100K+ in cars where I used to live in Clifton but would be fine where I am now (on a converted farm). Yes, extra security is good but what seems to be happening is that if it's really tight, the thieves are resorting to ever more desperate measures and once you know you're a target (if they get another Merc and X5 for example) it wouldn't suprise me if it happens again whatever security they get. Basically, you're f3cked unless you move somewhere else.
Soapsuds
Still remains that if they want it, they will get it - security or no security..... My mate had 4 guys attempt to get his Evo FQ340 off him in Manchester CC one sat night - luckilly, he had his doors locked and security film on the windows. He floored it and dissapereard, but they can still car-jack you!!! Silly times - maybe i should start importing thouse under-car flame throwers from South Africa!!! mooret
MAstra the problem with what you say is that he lives on a converted farm in the middle of nowhere! At present he is renting so not really possible to spec security systems as discussed above. At the end of day I leave the car keys downstairs at night and set the house alarm, excluding upstairs. This is done without fail every night, but then I have worked in Security for too many years not to know the risks. I dont want someone coming upstairs in the middle of the night to ask for car keys. let them take them and go. The main point is that no harm came to my bro. Yeah he'll lose out to the insurance companies but thats only cash. He is fit and well and will fight another day. his house is not finished yet but this may prompt a move to a more populated area. MattR32
Oops - I imagined some big house on the outskirts of a city! Time for me to worry about the converted farm in the middle of nowhere that we live in! Hope it all works out okay.
Ian_C
Bastards. Just glad your brother is okay. Personally doubt the X5 would have been used for a ram raid. More likely that both cars will be out of the country by now. Ian
