Hello

Im thinking of getting a body kit for my car. I have been looking around and most of them come unpainted. I was wondering if anyone knows any good websites of advice about how to paint it? My car is black and im worried that if i spray the body kit its gonna look a different colour to the car cause its 5 yr old and obviously the paint isnt as good as it was when new. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, nicola

Hi Nicola,

Best advice I can give it take it to a professional.... some reasons why

a) They'll get the colour match right, they might need to take into account fade, ie + or - the orginal colour and they'll do a good job

b) Professionals will add to the paint when painting bumpers to allow it to bond and flex with the bumper

c) You need it to be painted in a dust free environment and baked in the oven to cure the paint and give it strength

d) you need to get it laquered and polished

e) it will need a few coats and each coat should be sanded (wet-n-dry) to give a professional finish

I was working in a spray shop last week, repairing the burner on the "Spray Bake" booth. The paint is applied to the car at a constant temperature of 22 degrees C, and then baked for 27 minutes at a temperature of 75 degrees C.

Don't waste your bodykit by trying to do it yourself. The guy in charge said they start doing full resprays at £500, so a bodykit's going to be a lot less than that. 169144-ok.gif
