ant1973
Didn't think that Halfords made random orbit polishers, but apparently so. Has anyone tried them?

[/ QUOTE ] I doubt very much that they are made by Halfords. Probably someone else repackaged in their colours. Some bargins can be found like this if you know who made the internal workings. Hudson
If they are the £15.99 items.... forget it, they could not dust the skin of a rice pudding, i am not aware of any real UK orbital polisher of any note that you can buy for general public use. You could go down the high speed polisher route but then you really need to know what you are doing or you could burn through the paint. I have use something called a Porter Cable Orbital Polisher, it is from the USA and is 110v, very good for keen amateurs, and no chance of doing any damage. McGee
Just found this company in UK who can supply PC Random Orbital Polisher. Price seems reasonable although you need a transformer to convert the electric to 240v. Looking at US sites they seem to retail for $100 - $130 so not a bad rate of exchange and you don't need to worry as much about postage costs. stewarta13wsb
Is that 3rd one on the page the one all you guys use then? With the transformer how does the price compare?
McGee
No stewarta13wsb first or second although I think they are the same. Not sure on the price of transformer yet but I am pretty sure max tool or screw fix can sort you one out. I am just gathering info at the moment but will probably buy in new year when weather improves. Some of the us sites before and after pictures are amazing as are the write ups. Hudson
Your right, the first two are basically the same, i think the difference is to do with the counter balance weight that you use in the head to keep it stable. Screwfix have really cheap transformers and you can get really good results with one of these. I know one guy who has a nice little side line at the weekend using his machine, pads, compounds and polishes to sort and fettle other peoples cars. He knows his stuff and the punters are more than happy.

hotdog
Seemed to do a decent job on my Astra (Dark Blue metallic) It was better with a final polish by hand and changing the pads often helped too
