RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] To be honest, it is exactly as Red puts it in an earlier post; if you are not going to do shed loads of miles per year then the 3.2 will not hurt your wallet that much compared to the 2.0T. If you are doing high milage then it will. [/ QUOTE ] John Lennon once said" "Life is what happens while you make plans"....In my case the Mk4 R32 was always my (achievable) dream car but when I had the money spare the Mk5 GTI was available and so I got one of those instead - and have absolutely no regrets. Now that the Mk5 R32 is out and those people who were slagging it have either actually driven one or seen one 'in the flesh', opinion about it is changing for the better. I actually dreamt I had one last night!! How sad am I? The consideration of higher fuel consumption is obviously a big factor. I'm beginning to think that I won't stick to my original plan of keeping my GTI for anything up to 10 years but I'll continue doubling my mileage (and petrol bills) from last year and continue having so much fun with the GTI and very seriously consider the R32 as my next car much sooner. The trouble is that I just know that I'll be racking up my petrol bills with a R32 too. Both these Mk5 Golfs are too much fun to leave in the garage! Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The GTI's engine, being turbocharged has to do without the benefits of stratified charge injection, so it's technically an FSI engine in name only -- the only benefit of FSI technology it has is direct cylinder injection as opposed to the port injection used by most other petrol cars. [/ QUOTE ] ....Does that mean that the GTI doesn't exploit its FSI title anything like as efficiently as the new R32? [/ QUOTE ] After reading the engine detail specs of the GTI you are correct the FSI on the GTI does not have a lean burn cycle like other FSIs engines, does the R32 i don't know but i would think it may have as reading the tec info for the 2.0T i think the reason maybe because it has the turbo system.
