Maintains tips

Winter is now here and some helpful maintain tips for all TSN members.

List of items to check this winter before the really bad weather comes ooo.gif

Engine bay

*Oil level (If topping up level observe oil spec from service book)

*Screen wash level (always use the manufactures spec screen wash, which is sometimes cheaper than Halfords/Aftermarket products)

*Anti Freeze (check level and the coolant should be a clean free for materials and have a rich colour)

*Battery (Most modern batteries are life-time sealed so there is not maintains needed but check the battery terminals for signs corrsion

*Brake fluid and power steering fluid

Wheels and Tyres

*Tyre Pressures (Plays a large part in the car handling and road holding in winter conditions)

*Tread Depths (Check all four road wheels and spare it 3 places inner, mid and outer. Anything below 3mm should be changed before travelling in winter conditions. A tread depth gauge can be purchased from around £1.50)

*Side Walls/ Wheels (check for signs of damage / cuts / bulges)

Vehicle Outside

*Lights (Have someone sit in the vehicle and work the lights while you check them. All Light lenses should be clear of condensation and dirt)

*Number plates (All number plates should be clean and clear of any objects)

*Windows/ Windscreen (Clean all windows and check windscreen for any signs of cracks or chips)

*Windscreen wipers (Replace wipers that are split or not clearing the screen)

Things to have in the vehicle

*Flash Light

*Blanket / Warm coat

*Bottle of clean drinking water

*First aid kit

If all this seems too much work you could book you vehicle into you local garage or dealer for a winter health check. grin.gif
