Hi

If possible could someone clarify some things for me regarding the DVD Sat Nav system in the A3.

1. Does it play Cds when you don’t have the DVD navigation disc loaded?

2. If you have the DVD nav Disc loaded and your using sat nav, can you listen to mp3 from the sd card slots?

3. If you have the DVD nav Disc loaded and your using sat nav, can you listen to the radio?

I’m just checking as I have placed an order for my company car and the leasing company have told me, and I quote from my email:

‘I have spoken to the supplying dealership today regarding your new company car order and just wanted tot make you aware that the car will not have any facility to play CD's.

This is because you have opted to have a DVD Navigation System fitted. The car It does however have slots in the dashboard which enable you to install and play MP3 SD cards.’

I spoke to the dealer direct and he told me to look in the price list, which states the above. However in the price list, it states that an audio cd cannot be played in navigation mode, not that audio cds cannot be played altogether as my email states.

Thanks in advance!

What if you have the 6CD changer as well?

I'm pretty sure in that case you can listen to CDs while using Sat Nav (the issue discussed in this thread revolves around using CDs with the slot behind the screeen which is where the dvd goes I believe...)

Yep, if you have the changer of course you can listen to cds whilst using nav.

I have DVD Nav plus

Answers:

1) Yes you can remove the DVD disk and play CDs or CDs with MP3s on. You won't have navigation capability with the DVD removed.

2) Yes, with the DVD disk loaded you can listen to the SD slots (called Card 1 and Card 2

3) Yes with DVD Nav loaded you can listen to the Radio, in the 2006 MY cars you can mute the Radio/CD/MP3s and still have Navigation instructions. If you order the multi-func strg wheel you can get Nav instructions by pressing the volume control roller switch even if the voice instruction option is set to off.

Personally speaking I wouldn't bother with the CD changer - it is a £320 option that your will pay tax on. The SD slots take 1Gb cards (£30 from Ebuyer.com), each 1Gb card holds 16 CDs worth of music, so two cards is £60 and you have a capacity of 32 CDs instantly available - the quality is awesome. Makes that £320 CD changer look pretty poor value.

Thanks for all your help!

I have spoken to the dealer who was not willing to admit he got it wrong but agreed that I could actually play a cd when not using the DVD for navigation.

The whole 'misunderstanding' has put my order back by a week as the leasing company were reluctant to place the order without checking with me.

I've been quoted a mid feb delivery! frown.gif

Oh well it will be worth the wait.....
