neo283
I’ve finally lost my rag with the intermittent nature of my Audi Concert system. It takes ages to "fire up", if it decides to work at all. No idea what the problem is. Have checked all fuses, connections etc and I’m lost. So now the question is do I replace the system like-for-like and get myself another Concert head unit from Ebay? Or do I bite the bullet, put some naff looking blanking plates in either side and put in an after market head unit? I’ve read posts from some people about difficulties getting the standard Audi speakers to work with replacement head units. Although I’m not scared of replacing these too, I’m not competent enough to provide new looms and mounting brackets to suit replacement speakers. Also don’t want to spend hundreds! Any thoughts on this? Any advice gratefully accepted!
tomdymond
I looked into this for the TT and the general feedback i got was if you've got the Bose then leave well alone(ie replace the concert) if not then go for a change. I did have Bose so got a new concert and added a Dension ice link for the Ipod

Hudson
S4 SAT - Can i ask if your A4 has the same security plate that my A6 has, ie the one that covers the stereo ?? If so i wanted to know if you can still use the flap with an aftermarket unit in ?
s4_sat
mine is a b5 a4 and doesn't have the flap. i had to get fascia adaptor plates for it to make the unit fit as the standard unit isn't DIN sized. if the front of the unit doesn't stick out too much then it shouldn't be a problem. my mate with an e39 530i has an alpine tv monitor fitted and the flap which covers the stereo has been stuck open to allow the screen to come out. s4_sat
i've seen TT's with aftermarket head unit which are still able to use the flap to cover the stereo.
Hudson
Thanks for that, i don't mind my concert unit and with the Bose system installed it really does sound v v nice, i do regret not having DAB though, it sounds so clear compared to standard FM, i think i will look around for a unit that has DAB, no sticky out buttons and can link up to the Bose !!! Not hard then....
s4_sat
Any head unit can link up to the BOSE system. All you need is the correct interface cable. I'll get the part number for it cos I got mine for £17 when i was gettin charged £45 for it from halfords and the like. I would recommend a pioneer DEH-P80MP with the hide-away GEX-P700DAB tuner. You'll need a AN-75DAB antenna for it though. Should come in at about £300 for the lot.
neo283
Cheers, Still not sure what to do. Concert HU's go on ebay for £150+ if I'm lucky. Can't justify that when I can get a better (all be it smaller) HU for the same kind of money. Pretty sure I'm on BOSE, either way a part number would be useful. Thanks! gizze
The becker head units sound awesome, and they match the audi interior a treat.
s4_sat
Is it the car that you're selling that you're putting the head unit in to?
neo283
Sig needs to be changed. Not for sale any more, but yeah it's the A3. When you say the system matched the interior, what do you mean?
s4_sat
i think he means the illumination of the unit. alpine, pioneer, clarion and kenwood offer head units with multi colour illumination to match the interior.
Chillihead
[ QUOTE ] The becker head units sound awesome, and they match the audi interior a treat. [/ QUOTE ] I agree, do you lose the DIS and do they have red illumination?
s4_sat
the dis is lost although mine was fading from the sides so its not too bad. the cable to fit the head unit is a pc-480 or 490.
