Replace Audi Concert or New System?

Recommended Posts

I’ve finally lost my rag with the intermittent nature of my Audi Concert system. It takes ages to "fire up", if it decides to work at all. No idea what the problem is. Have checked all fuses, connections etc and I’m lost.

So now the question is do I replace the system like-for-like and get myself another Concert head unit from Ebay? Or do I bite the bullet, put some naff looking blanking plates in either side and put in an after market head unit?

I’ve read posts from some people about difficulties getting the standard Audi speakers to work with replacement head units. Although I’m not scared of replacing these too, I’m not competent enough to provide new looms and mounting brackets to suit replacement speakers. Also don’t want to spend hundreds! Any thoughts on this?

Any advice gratefully accepted!

mine is a b5 a4 and doesn't have the flap. i had to get fascia adaptor plates for it to make the unit fit as the standard unit isn't DIN sized. if the front of the unit doesn't stick out too much then it shouldn't be a problem. my mate with an e39 530i has an alpine tv monitor fitted and the flap which covers the stereo has been stuck open to allow the screen to come out.

Thanks for that, i don't mind my concert unit and with the Bose system installed it really does sound v v nice, i do regret not having DAB though, it sounds so clear compared to standard FM, i think i will look around for a unit that has DAB, no sticky out buttons and can link up to the Bose !!! Not hard then....

Any head unit can link up to the BOSE system. All you need is the correct interface cable. I'll get the part number for it cos I got mine for £17 when i was gettin charged £45 for it from halfords and the like. I would recommend a pioneer DEH-P80MP with the hide-away GEX-P700DAB tuner. You'll need a AN-75DAB antenna for it though. Should come in at about £300 for the lot.
