Zenyck100
had my rear tyres changed today and the ones which came off were in a mess. they where lumpy and unevenly worn. Tyres were marshal matrac ( yes i know...who the hell are they) MY local VW dealer said that my rear tyres were out of shape a few months ago after i reported what sounded like a wheel bearing had gone. As there were loads of tread left i wore them down. The things is the remaining marshal matrac tyres on the front are also going out of shape in the same way, not as bad but theres 4mm of tread left on them yet. I had 4 wheel alignment done a few months ago so i know that the car is in spec. Is there anything elso that would cause this?? or are the tyres just crap. the old michelin pilot sports that were on the back for a few thousand miles when i bought the car didnt appear out of shape when i changed them as far as i can remember. can anyone suggest any other causes as i dont want to scrub my new tyres. cheers Zen

R32North
Could be crap tyres on a powerful car, but the only other thing is something wrong with the suspension geometry!!!
dogbucket
My local tyre place was telling me how he has had lots of RX8 owners in with 50p shaped bridgestones, implying that it was because of the tyre. This was as he fleeced me for some PS2s
oldrascal
Picked my 2004 5 door last week and took it straight out onto the motorway. As soon as I hit 80 mph, the front started to shimmy and shake badly (or well, depending upon semantics ). Anyhow, straight to KwikFit which was the nearest tyre shop to get the fronts balanced. The thing is, the car has only done 19k miles and the original tyres clearly have just been replaced. The fitter called me over and showed me the problem on the balance machine. The tyres were so mis-shapen that you could watch the tread rise and fall by waha looked like half an inch as he spun the wheel around. The culprits turned out to be the crappy Khumo tyres that the original owner had fitted. So I binned the lot and had a set of brilliant Michelin Pilot Sport fitted. Sorted. The motto, don't put cheap tyres on an R32.

Dr_Watson
I visit my local tyre garage about 4 times a year, winter tyre rule and all that rubbish. He was talking about wear rates on different parts of the tyre, saying the main reason for uneven wear was that they were inflated to the wrong pressure. Too little and more wear on the inside, too much and more wear in middle, about right gives. Check your pressures, just an idea.
Zenyck100
i can count that one out as i always check my tyre pressures, every couple of weeks at least
Soulboy
I am no tyre expert......BUT I have a strong suspicion that the answer has something to do with these two words. marshal matrac Apologies if they are good tyres, but I have never heard of them. helfinger
[ QUOTE ] I am no tyre expert......BUT I have a strong suspicion that the answer has something to do with these two words. marshal matrac Apologies if they are good tyres, but I have never heard of them. [/ QUOTE ] i agree....who is or what is marshal matrac? The only issue i have had is that they tyres tend to ware on the innter edge at the front, but that is due to my coilover set up. On a std set up i had even tyreware. i suggest you get it aligned correctly............
dubzter
where about did the wear occur, because at my first tyre change the passenger rear michy pilot sport was so out of shape i thought it was a wheel bearing as well. It was the inside edge of the tyre that had gone on mine, it had flat spots every couple of inches around the circumference

Dr_Watson
Funny thing is, a guy at my work has a WRX with Marshal Matrac tyres, he had no choice, came with the car. They are worn uneven and when he drives at certain speeds, it sounds like the wheel bearings are about to explode. Anyway, he says ha has put his winter tyres on (cheap ones) and the wheels are silent now! He is reading thru this thread while im at work. Maybe just crappy tyres after all. Zenyck100
well thats exactly what i was getting. new tyres are now on the back and now silent but the front ones are starting to make the same noise so they will be coming off soon even though they have 4mm of tread left.
