Thanks Alastair.

I drove a mate's BMW CSL which started me on my quest for a new car, I found a CSL for 38k but the insurance was 2.5k! I'm afraid to say I lost my nerve in the end, I got worried about the residual value and the fact that an awful lot of the what was it 490 cars? have done a great deal of track day mileage. I thought about a used S4 which I think is an outstanding car but I in the end I've divined a car after many test drives that fits my brief. In reality I need a hatchback for purely practical reasons and the 130 is as near as I can get to a performace car that's a five door.

BMW made me an offer I just couldn't refuse.

Yes (nervius cough) i've got the 18 inchers and I haven't got a clue how they will feel. Many articles and posts refer to the over hard suspension, my 120d is skippy if I'm gunning it round a bumpy corner, so I'm hoping that it won't be too much of a surprise....I'll let you know next week!

Look forward to it 169144-ok.gif

Yes i think deprecitaion with the CSL will still be a problem. I hate to think about the people who bought them new! My mate recently bought a Porsche C4 for 38k, id say it was the better buy really. Enjoy your 130i it should be alot of fun 169144-ok.gif Ive also done lots of track milage as i have a Caterham 7. I cant think of anything else as fun on the track for 15k. Saying that i am tempted by with a second hand exige.... dream on alastair the mrs wants a new kitchen frown.gif

fantastic that must be such fun in a caterham. I've done quite a lot of track days some on bikes and some cars.the last one was at the Nurburgring, I went with some mates, two porsches, an evo and me on my R1. I had the best of both worlds, my mates lent me their cars and I got to do quite a lot of laps on my bike.

I'd love to have a go round a track in a Caterham..fantastic fun, I mean it's a single seater race car.

On depreciation, you are right about Porkies, even though the CSL was a superb drive I also wonder what will happen when the new M3 arrives, suddenly it becomes an old body shape and will be in the lap of the gods regarding whether it will become a classic or not.

Got to keep the missus happy or your life will become a misery!

Trouble is if you got an Exige, you want something even better after that...you know the story.

I have to agree with Mr Me's opinions. Here's my review of the BMW 130i M-Sport.....

Superb review there, Driftgod. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not made me want to go out and buy one (I don't think anything would), but it was a very well thought out and written review all the same. 169144-ok.gif

thanks, I'm new to this, how?

By the way I thought the A3 2.0 T FSI Sportback was the best Audi of the 5 or 6 I test drove.

Cheers glad you liked it. Am very happy with it, not a straight six but the engine certain has a bit of something about it.

Alastair, that makes sense. Is the fuel consumption really that bad? I think I'm going to notice a difference between the 120d'd overal mpg average of 36 mpg (mostly London and irresponsible right foot)and the 130 although my wife's 330 ci isn't too bad, as I'm writing this I realise that she does an average of about 24mph including motorways!

It depends on your driving. If your like me and like to have fun then yes you will, massivley! The 130 will drink fuel compared to your 120d. On a "spirited" run back to the dealers the 3.2 achieved 17 mpg! But the noise was surperb!

On the subject of the fact that the money for a specced 130i could get a 330i or a 5 series, so what?

I wouldn't ever consider a 5 series - it's massive, and I like hatchback practicality. If I was in the market for a super performance car, I wouldn't even consider the M5, or really the M3. I'd be looking at SLK55s, boxters, modding the S3, and a M1 would fit perfectly in that sort of company..

totally agree with you fjfr. I did however start my buying spree and bid for a CSL which thankfully I didn't win. The 130i is bang on brief for me in that I love driving reasonably quickly and I need a car that is also practical. I lived with an S6 estate for four years, it was great, however I have to qualify that by saying it was great for an estate car. I feel the same way now about bigger cars like the 5 series, fantastic if you are just doing thousands of motorway miles. I have driven most makes of super cars, most of them feel too big for the windy roads I love. The Vanquish while impressive felt like an ocean liner on the Wiltshire back roads.

Dave, it was due today, got a phone call to say they now have to deliver tomorrow ..tuesday due to a delay in obtaining my Smartnav. Hopefully tomorrow. I will supply photos, unfortunately they will be off my poo mobile until I can get my digital to download!

Any luck with your search?

will do. I bought this piece of scrap from 02 it's called an XDA exec, I've happily owned 3 XDa's over the years and this latest is a major step or steps backwards. Unfortunately, being a tight arse I can't spend another load of dosh on another new phone having just bought one!

I forgot to mention, I paid for some kind of paint treatment for the new car which theoretically means I don't have to wash it with soap and sponge. The dirt just hoses off, including bird poo.

Maybe they just saw me coming like 02!

Hi James, I'm not looking to change to a new car until April, so didn't think there'd be much point hassling the dealers yet for a price on a 130i M-sport. But I'll let you know if I find a good deal over the next few months smile.gif

It might be worth asking about prices now though, the offer I got for March delivery rather than April of my 120D M Sport was a significant reduction as BMW seem to be trying to boost their new registration sales figures 169144-ok.gif.

just taken delivery and popped into Knightsbridge. I absolutely love it! The suspension is firmer than the 120d sport and I have no problems with it at all. I have been a bit concerned because I bought it without a test drive via the phone, it's better than I thought. About twelve years ago I had an Alpina B10 which was about the same bhp and this engine sounds almost identical, that deep rasping V6!

It certainly does what it says on the tin

Only resevation is the metallic strip along the frnt dash and the door handles. it distracts ftom the super stealth feel of the interior.

Photos will follow.
