Newbie123
Congratulations James, I've got few weeks to wait until my lowly 120D arrives . Looking forward to the pics .
Alphamail
Thanks for the advice Chrispy. It was a close call, but like Evo magazine I prefer the 130. If you own an R32 I wouldn't try to convert you, I'd assume that you had done some of your own research and test driven a few options before you made your own very personal choice. My mates got the previous model R32 which I prefer to the new one, but that's my taste. Thank god we're all different, well at least I like to think I am. daveknott
Congrats James. Don't listen to Chrispy re: the R32. The 130i is far more of a drivers car. No poncy understeer or heavy 4wd for you! + the BMW staight six is more powerful, lighter and better on fuel consumption (30mpg vs 24.6 from the R32). Then there's the added bonus that the BMW has a superb interior that bests the Golf for quality (in my opinion), and there aren't nearly so many 1 series on the road as Golf's.... Alphamail
Thanks Newbie, I was really sad to see my 120 disappear down the road with trade plates. I really loved that car and had so much fun with the mid range and chasis. After a while you get to know its character and it's got bundles. Let me know when you get it. Alphamail
Dave thanks you took the words out of my mouth! I can't believe how similar the engine is to the Alpina, my B10 had a 260bhp 3.5 6 cylinder and it had that gutsy bottom end roar. I',m in love. The golfs are great cars, they are for a different market. my mate with his R32 said to me last week that when ever he gets into his BMW he realises how bloody well put together they (BMW) are and how beautifully balanced. He's test driving a new R32, he doesn't like the bling look and the blandness. I think they are going for the Subaru Mitsubishi arrested development market. daveknott
I agree with you on the R32's looks. What is that chrome "goatee" about?! If I was to have one of those it'd be in Silver to mask that hideous bling front end! It does make a great noise though - check out the vid on the Autocar site: http://www.autocarmagazine.co.uk/movies.asp

Alphamail
Not yet Alastair. I've just picked it up from the garage, they've just fitted Smartnav. It was great coming down the M4 into London tonight hearing those reassuring bleeps alerting me to "safety cameras"! I'll take some pics this weekend, I'm off to Mid Wales tomorrow morning, hopefully if it stays dry I'll take a few. I should be able to post them on Monday, they'll be crap,I can guarantee it, but hey. Couple of features I didn't know it had....one is the door handles light up when you lock and unlock the car. two the doors automatically lock once the car is in motion, great if you live in Lambeth like me! Have a good weekend.
Alphamail
i've got a pickie, how do I publish it on this topic? Duh Just got back from an epic drive to Wales through Hereford. What a motor, I'm still only short shifting, changing at 4000. you can drive along windy country roads in 5th or 6th the torque is extraordinary. the best engine yet. I am over the moon. Smartnav was also impressive so much cheaper than the bmw system and just as effective.

Alastair_A3
James you shouldnt have to use Adobe Photoshop to view digi cam pics. Just use the photo viewer you PC came with. Or just upload the pictures from your camera straight into my pictures.

Alphamail
Apparently my Casio EX Z750 needs a faster USB port than my once omnipotent PC can provide, it's so out of date (4yrs old). I'm off to buy a new PC, any excuse to burn the plastic!

Alphamail
Thanks Chav. I used to do exactly that with my new bikes, I'm turning into an anorak, I even read the 130 owner's manual. What's happening to me? Managed to download digi pics of car, can't get this site to accept them. Suggestions any one? Yes I am technically incompetent.
