How to remove scuff marks from rear bumper?

I have discovered some scuff marks on my rear bumper. I'm pretty sure how I did it - I was hoovering the boot and the hose from the vacuum cleaner was rubbing against the bumper. What would be the best way to remove/disguise them?

I have some Scratch X, would that be any good?

I could also do with some advice on how to use my, as of yet unused, PC polisher. What pads should I use to apply wax and then remove it? I've been very careful during washing. So far there are very few, if any, swirl marks. (Apart from the aforementioned bumper.)

Thanks in advance.

Can't vouch for Scratch-X as I've never used it. But others on here have used it.

Plastic painted bumpers are notorius for the odd nick or scratch. As I park in town my bumpers are too often 'rubbed' by some clown or another when parking. I use AG SRP to combat such scratches and scuffs as it tends to have a mild (very mild) cutting action and will, after repeated action, remove most if not all of them.

I suppose it depends on just how deep they are which will dictate the use of similar or something more aggressive.

If I've learned one thing from this forum, for which I am indebted, is to use as little and as mild a cut as possible!!! You can always take some more off BUT you can't put it back on. 169144-ok.gif

Ditto on all of the above.... i have had similar....used Farecla G3, gentle at first with repeated procedures, then Megs pure polish and wax of choice to top it all off, the scuffs (if not down to plastic that is) should come off with a few applications of the cutting compound you choose.

Hi!

Above advice is good, but just to check are you saying the hoover has acutally scratched your paint OR has the the car damaged the hoover, in that the hovers paint or plastic is now on the back of your car?

If its the latter some tar remover will soften it up and use a microfibre to remove what is called the "transfer" then follow with ScratchX or SRP. If you have access to clay that might help to, its a good idea, if you have just got some of paint or plastic from the hoover on the car to remove as much before you polish as you might end up rubbing that further across the bumper and making scratches and marring.

If the the bumber is black there is not much you can do if its acutally scratched. But if its transfer then follow what i said above minus the polish!

With regard your PC, if you have pads then the Meguiars Polishing pad at speed 5 would work with scratchX. 4 dots around the pad on the first application, spread it manually over a small area of about 1 or 2 square feet. Set it to 5 wizz it across the paintwork to spread it further then move at about 1cm per second across the area until the product turns clear/less white/cream. Buff off residue straight away!

ScratchX is acutally really quite abrasive! Its designed by hand, when implemented by hand its very effective by machine its very effective.

Ok so not really removing but more concealing - I tried AG bumper care for the first time at the w/e and really impressed:grin:. Looks like some sort of green slime but did a good job of covering up the scuff + the black plastic trim looks good as new. Also seems to have sorted a few 'white' spots where wax/polish had accidently ended up on the trim.

Cheers Geoff. The bumper is black and unpainted, no paint transfer just a scrape albeit quite light. Doesn't sound like I have too many options :(.

PS. I think the PC comment was from Sponge's post.+++

Try Scartch-X and repeat if needed and maybe then try or follow up with AG SRP to mask what you cannot remove +++
