gizze
Just format it as FAT and drag the mp3s you want onto the card. You can drag folders with the mp3's onto the card too if you like. That is all there is to it.
PetrolDave
The RNS-E is a bit fussier than DOS or Windows about filenames, e.g. you cannot use the pling (!) character in filenames on the RNS-E. I do exactly the same as gIzzE - drag and drop the folders containing the MP3 files onto the SD card. I also use playlists created using Playlist Creator 3 from oddgravity, so I can choose what gets displayed on the DIS.
edo
is there a limit to card size/amount of data the unit can recognise?
PetrolDave
There's a limit of 512 files/folders. If there are more than that on the SD card, then the RNS-E will only see the first 512. I know of several people, including me, who are using 4GB SD cards, which AFAIK are the largest SD cards available at the moment.
edo
Thanks. 4's still seem a lot more (than double) the price of 2's, so I may stick with a 2gb. Can't be arsed with faffing about wiaitng for it to come from Hong Kong/USA via ebay - any suggestions on the best place to go?
PetrolDave
I got my 1GB cards from Amazon, and a 2GB card for my brother's Navman from Amazon also - I got my 4GB card from eBay for £167. I always go for the hi-speed cards, my RNS-E (and several other people's too) won't work reliably with "normal" cards. Having said that, some people are using "normal" cards without problem. Make your own choice ...

System being fitted by Craig tomorrow, so will let you all know how I get on. Ed
mawd
Hope ist ok bumping an old thread but could anyone advise me how playlists work on the SD cards on RNS-E ? I've downloaded 'Playlist Creator 3' and can add files in to it and create one of two types of files, ,M3U and .PLS. Dont know if this is right but would i open this software and then add the MP3's from the SD card and then save the resulting M3U/PLS file to the root of the SD card ? I'm also struggling with the concept of adding albums to the SD card. I've been told that the RNS-E only displays the first 8 characters of the file name but i've seen pictures on RNS-E units with more information displayed such as Artist -- Trackname (ie Tag information) ? Also, if i creatae a folder on the SD card called 'Stone Roses' with all the MP3's in it does it pick up the folder name as the album name ? Am baffled by all this at the moment hopefulyl all will become clear when i get the RNS-E and can have a playaround with an SD card in it. Cheers , Al.
