RedRobin
Come on!! Whether you agree with MrMe's opinions or not, the indisputable fact is that he knows an awful lot about a lot of cars and usually has a very interesting and useful contribution to make. I realise that sometimes his manner can rub some people up the wrong way but give the guy a break instead of insulting his choice of cars quite unnecessarily. If you behaved like that about a man's car face to face in some parts of the world, you'd get knifed! Throwing insults around simply alienates people from this forum. There's a separate thread on Badge Snobbery....In General Cars IIRC.
garcon magnifique
spankit, I think this rattle looks like yours mate. Look back through the last 2 or 3 pages of this thread. YOU were the one that started posting like a child, not MrMe. Maybe YOU should get over your obsession with the BMW's arse? P.S. Wouldn't be surprised if EVO run an R32 long term sooner or later. B.T.T. (back to topic!)The more I read reviews of them, and especially opinions of those of you who've driven both the MkV GTI and R32, the more I think they are very different cars who happen to share little more than the same body shell. Personally, because I like 4wd and big engine grunt and I'm not quite as bothered about nimbleness and on the edge performance, I think I'd prefer the R32 of the two (er, having driven neither yet!). But having got used to bigger cars I'm not sure I'd go for one, plus I think it's underpowered (on paper at least!).
RedRobin
I'm hoping/expecting to get a couple more R32 drives in the not too distant and I expect I'll much prefer the DSG version and a colour other than Grey. It def has the feel of a bigger saloon-type car and I think you are right to point out the differences being much more. Engine, transmission (4WD), suspension, brakes, weight etc are all different from the GTI.

ashleywater
Hi Red just a quick query, do you use your floor shift much? Just discovered mine! sad I know, but have become like a teenager with a new bit of skirt: Cant stop using it........... Like a rally sequential shift, really getting the hang of it now, and it is so quick....... Just curious, cant recall you mentioning using the floor shift.........
RedRobin
I hardly use the floor shift at all (except between D and S) and prefer the paddles for manual shifting as I can keep both hands on the wheel. The floor shift feels much more positive than I expected. Your post encourages me to try it out much more

bal5sidhu
i reckon Spankit and MrMe are really best mates trying to wind up the rest of us with their fake vendetta. If not, then then I for one am bored of their schoolgirl bitchery
hoofboy
I would personally give both of them a medal, this is making a 3 star post into a 5, keep it up!!!
NewNiceMrMe
Haramkor, I'm saying this politely, please do me a favour and re-read the thread. I did not initiate the 'schoolgirl bitchery' and I will say whatever I want when someone wants to troll a thread and direct comments at me. I responded, so before saying 'their' can you please look at where the issue began and allow someone the right to reply and make their point please. He's on ignore now anyway, so I can be spared his future trolling and the rest of TSN can be spared repetitions of this in future.
bal5sidhu
Mr Me -i fully agree that Spankit is goading you with his comments. What i mean by "their" is that you're helping him out by rising to it. Feel free to reply to posts directed at you but just remember that the more childish ones aren't worth it. stay above it mate

RedRobin
I'm trying to find something to say to get us all back on topic. I'll let you guys know as soon as I've managed to locate a DSG version R32 to try out and compare. I'm not the definitive authority on how good or bad the new .:R - It's mostly just personal opinion and also from a GTI perspective. I wonder which I would have chosen if I didn't already have the GTI. Geoff - I checked out the same measurement in my GTI and there's exactly 5" difference in available overall height with the rear shelf in place in both cars. scillyisles
[ QUOTE ] I wonder which I would have chosen if I didn't already have the GTI. [/ QUOTE ] Good point Red - I drove the GTI some months ago and then recently the R32 - for me the R32 was a more logical choice. I also think the DSG works better with the R32 than it does in the GTI due to the extra low down grunt that the R32 has. It will be interesting to see what you think when you get a chance to test drive a DSG version.
Simonl
I would love to road test a DSG R32. One of my biggest problems with my last car (which i shan't mention again ) was the speed at which you hit the redline in 1st (almost instantly). I can imagine DSG would make an R32 feel like a missile off the line!
AGK512
Red do I remember correctly you saying somewhere that Milltek had offered you a drive in their R32? Interesting to know how it sounds over stock
ChrisBuer
I've already had a good test drive of the DSG R32 and have a drive booked in the manual on Saturday! It's a black R32 and seeing as I've got this colour on order (and not even seen it yet), I'll be taking a lot of pictures! My dealer (a guy I actually went to college with years ago) said that he prefers the manual as he found it more exciting...so we'll see Aww heck it's fun finding out
RedRobin
MayConv....Yep, but I want to test drive a DSG version before I go up to Milltek. I'll report on TSN accordingly. ChrisBuer....Whether DSG or manual you go for, I'm sure you'll enjoy. DSG takes longer to get familiar with. As you say that you've already ordered, is it DSG or manual? RedRobin
Fecking Stealers !!!! - Now saying they can't source a DSG version R32 for me to test drive and that as I already know the DSG box (in my GTI) I don't need to!! Grrrrr!! Time to post a new topic in the R32 forum....I bet TSN members can source one!
Mollox
It might be something to do with the fact that dealers have such low allocations and that they're all sold? The dealer I spoke to would let me look at the DBP DSG 5 door they had in but there was no hope of a drive as it was a customer car awaiting delivery... Just guessing
