HOW TO: Retrofit Ambient Interior Lighting

As many of you know it is possible to retrofit the ambient lighting in the front of the A4 which is usually only available as part of the interior light pack. This is a VERY EASY mod to do. It is just 2 LEDs available from the dealer.

Since Nelson told me about this mod, I have had the parts on order from the dealers. Since there is no guide in english with pictures on how to do this modification I will try and explain as best I can on how to do it in a relatively painless manner. It only took me 30 minutes, and it cost under 10 quid for the parts. There is no wiring involved, the connectors are already there to plug the LEDs in.

Make sure you have the following before you begin:

The LEDs from your dealer, Part Number: 8E0919063A

A drill with a 5mm bit

A + screwdriver

I apologise for the blurry pics, but they are fine for these purposes.

The part:

Step 1.) Carefully unclip the two removable panels on your light cluster, in the following order:

Step 2.) Locate the two screws in the light cluster that are preventing it from coming out, and unscrew them both - make sure you have a hand ready to catch the screws otherwise you'll do what I did and nearly lose them down the side of the seats.

Step 3.) Pull out the light cluster, it should come out very easily. Locate the two spade connectors, it's quite hard to see them in this pic but once you have done the above steps you won't miss them.

Step 4.) Clip the part you bought from the dealers in. There is only one way it will go in so dont worry about clipping it back to front.

Step 5.) Connect the LED to the spade connectors, be patient and careful with them, they can be quite fiddley.

Step 6.) Get your drill ready, and put the 5mm drill bit in. Find terrorist balaclava and put on if you wish to jump out with a drill and scare your wife/girlfriend/mother. (unfortunately I didn't have this privledge as my gf was at work today, ffs).

Step 7.) Drill 2 holes in the light cluster you removed, there are circles that protrude the surface and this is where you need to drill. I managed to go a little off center with my first one - don't panic if this happens, just dont deviate too much from the center and you should still be ok.

Step 8.) Put the light cluster back in its place and screw it in.

Step 9.) Replace all the other bits you took off, and check the mod is working by putting the cars lights on.

Step 10.) Wait anxiously until dusk! 169144-ok.gif Then enjoy

I hope this is helpful and easy to follow. Many thanks for Nelson for making me aware of the mod in the first place coffee.gif I will post some pics of what it looks like when it gets dark.

Yup, very sure; I made the mistake first time of only drilling to the first markers. Then I saw an A3 with interior light pack in our showroom and realised they were meant to be ALLOT bigger! tongue.gif

Ok mate, I guess it makes a difference with how the light is projected if the holes aren't big enough?

I will sort this out a bit later 169144-ok.gif

Just called Liverpool Audi and they don't have the part in stock. They can't order it today, apparently, but asked me to call back Monday. They confirmed the price at £8.46 + VAT.

Don't be surprised if it takes them a while to get the part in stock, it took my dealer about 3 weeks.

I just called Liverpool Audi and they wouldn't let me order them over the phone. In fact, they were very abrupt and keen to know why I wanted them. They said I had to go to them in person and pay for the item at time of order. I offered to pay over the phone and reminded them it was only £10 or so, but they weren't interested. Apparently, they had £4500 fraudulent order just before Christmas.
