shao_khan
So Passat Estate with isofix - can anyone tell me the differences with the non isofix rear seats? Is it just a case of isofix points fixed to seat structure and I can change rear seats for later model to gain isofix points? SteNova
i'm sure isofix bolts to the car not the seat... probs to the seat belt mounting points
SteNova
goes off for a google..... First to verify that you need to upgrade your car, you can check if you already have the brackets. If you look between the seat cushion and the seat back (lift up the seat back cushion), you can find either the bracket already installed, or two bolt holes covered with square grey tape. The brackets will attach to these bolts holes.

NunchukHamster
ok, I have to ask - what are isofix seats?
pontyslapper
Isofix seats are quite simply baby/child seats for VW's They have cutesy names like Bobsy and are quite expensive, but they anchor to the car rather than being held in place by a seat belt. I'm quite glad that SK started this as the wife is more and more mentioning kids and I was starting to look into them for the estate.
NunchukHamster
That would explain why I know nothing about them. I went down the dog route instead of children!
shao_khan
problem I have is that I have non - isofix seats, and they seem to slide a bit even when secured properly on the leather, so I was toying with the idea of retrofitting isofix to make me feel a bit happier. Other alternative is perhaps trim downgrade.
pontyslapper
SK that seems a bit drastic. I'm sure that the Isofix will sort it - i mean at the price that VW charge it 'has to' surely!! I'm now in the process of convincing the wife that isofix is the way to go rather than seatbelt fixed seats. Does she want little slapper to be safe when they finally arrive or what?!? I'd rather have the little tike anchored to the car directly than through a Halfords special via the seatbelt, how about you?
shao_khan
well our oldest (19months) has a Seatbelt fixed forward facing seat - and its great, until it goes in the passat and then it just doesnt seem as secure on the leather as it does on the cloth seats. This is why I was looking at isofix as our youngest will be wanting a new seat coming up soon.
SteNova
just push it in harder, then 'jab' the belt so it locks.. then release the pressure and the seat should stay locked down, might be an idea to put something between the chair and leather to avoid marks
shao_khan
tried that - if I put anythign between the seat - it is even harder to lock down!!! Looks a right mess
pontyslapper
Well, Mrs Slapper is preggers. I now have to find the time this week to trot down the stealers to find out about retro fitting Isofix to our Passat estate. I've been looking into this baby seat malarky and quite a few of the big names in baby stuff do Isofix seats in their ranges - mostly they are about 100 quid. Seems a damn sight easier to use Isofix than to faff with a seatbelt. I'm convinced as the old man's new car has Isofix in place - just need to sort the Passat and the jobs a good 'un.
