DaveN Posted June 30, 2003 Report Share Posted June 30, 2003 Hi Last friday I was on the way home using my A3TS as its supposed to be used on a hot sunny day, then hell, stuck in a traffic jam for 50 mins. Anyway just as I clear the jam the coolant temp alarm goes off and the temp is at 120. I pull over and let the temp drop afterwards the temp stays at 90 and has been fine since. The coolant is circulating and the pump was replaced 9 months ago.I was looking for a cause and noticed the fans on the rediator were only woking for a short period. So after looking around I noticed the one of the three fues in the box above the battery had blown ( the left most 30A). To my question, does anyone know what this fuse is for as I want to know what caused the blown fuse before I replace it. Regards Dave N Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Mo-S3 Posted June 30, 2003 Report Share Posted June 30, 2003 Again... Hi Dave The fuses u r referring to are the cars main fuses and only blow if there is a serious problem with ur wiring. The cooling fans draw a heavy current and hence the reason why they located so near the battery. Why they blew could be down to many reasons, anything from a seized fan, loose wire which has shorted or something obstructing the fan. If u can get ur dealer to plug a Vag com into ur car then im sure a fault would be logged in there and thus giving an accurate reason as to why they have failed. If u do go ahead and replace it urself then keep an close eye on it as u wouldnt want to drive to far with no fans operating especially under heavy traffic conditions. clowesy Posted July 1, 2003 Report Share Posted July 1, 2003 Hi, My cooling system stopped working recently, both fans refused to work, the temp did not get any higher than 110C but it was worrying. I also replaced the fuse near the battery and, touch wood, no problems since ( 4 weeks). I will monitor the problem and take it in if needs be. Graham Posted July 1, 2003 Report Share Posted July 1, 2003 My A/C does not get cold at all i have had it checked at my local garage and they said all it needs is a recharge but they cant do it and i havent got round to takeing to my local Audi stealer yet, so i dont think the two would be connected cus my fans/cooling works fine and never gets above 90 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
DaveN Posted July 1, 2003 Author Report Share Posted July 1, 2003 Hi I went down to my local dealer and they took a quick look. The mechanic said to replace the fuse after asking me if the car had been jump started at all. It had about 6 months ago, he said that if the jump start is done with both jump leads connected to the battery these fuses can blow. He said that you should use the proceedure in the owners handbook. So my over heat was due to the conditions and the face the fuse was blown. Drillslinger Posted July 1, 2003 Report Share Posted July 1, 2003 Yeah sidicks, I had mine recharged only about 2 weeks ago, and paid 88 Euros. My local dealer says it should be recharged every 2 years, and depending on how much you use it, I would almost recommend sticking to the 2 year interval. Mine was recharged after about 2 1/2 years and it was LOW, only 300 grams of coolant in a 1000gram tank. From what I've read, (See my A/C Compressor post Here. ) if youlet the coolant get too low you run the risk of "knackering" your compressor. Drillslinger Posted July 2, 2003 Report Share Posted July 2, 2003 Well, if it makes you feel any better, I didn't even give it any thought (ASSUMED that my dealer did it with the 2 year service ) but had it checked out when my compressor started getting loud.
