P_G
In any event DHA ditch the Conti's; they are OEM fit on S4's and I don't know anyone who has been happy with them. F1 GSD3's now for me and they are excellent, I have also seen the Pirelli's get good write ups but they don't appear to last as long as the Goodyear's on my sort of car, on Porsche's however?? Couldn't comment.
DHA
Yeah had contis on the S4 and hated them there too! Paul, I am told the sidewall is stiffened relative to the suspension on Porsches and the compound of the tread can be slightly different. As to fitting them on other cars I don't know. However I think that Michelin are on the N4 rating now so those N1 versions are a bit old.
Paul
Cheers mate, wise to steer clear then. Cheap for a reason.

Scotty
I'm another Conti disliker. I've replaed them with Michelin PS2s which were better (but noisier) and now on the trusty Goodyear F1's.
J_C
Ditto here too. When I got my A4 quattro it still had the original Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres - not quite as good as the Pilot Sport 2s I'd had on my previous car but impressive nonetheless. When those wore out I fitted ContactSport 2s, and although I was initially happy with them during the summer, I thought they felt a bit 'dead'. They also tramline far more than the Michelins. However the crunch came this winter when as the cold and slippery weather took hold, I began to lose confidence in them entirely. On corners where I would previously keep my foot planted confidently all the way around, I found I could feel the Contis starting to let go. I don't remember that last winter with the Pilots. That's a good point about them suiting some cars better than others, but the unanimous feeling seems to be that the Contis aren't the best choice. NeilB
On all the forums I go on, Conti's get a lot of bad press for been rubbish in the dry let alone the wet. I'd go with a set of F1's, shame they are knackard after about 8k though.
Paul
[ QUOTE ] Porsche "N" ratings on tyres.... are they _purely_ for Porsche? Can they be fitted to other manufacturers? HERE Have a good deal on at the moment. Michelin - 225/40r18 n1(z) anyone know the difference between Pilot sports and Pilot sports carrying the N rating. ??????? [/ QUOTE ] Mitchelin have replied to an email. theres a disclaimer on the email, asking for it not to be copied etc etc, so i wont, but the general message could be summed up by non Porsche car / not recommended. Tizzy
I had Michelin PS2's on both my Boxster's - N2 on the S, grip was superb wet or dry and wear rate wasn't bad either, got about 8-9k from the backs. Only experienced Conti's on this S4, and they were awful, the Goodyear Eagle F1's have transformed the car.
Chrisg
[ QUOTE ] Pirelli Corsas are street legal and stick your car like glue on the track, but they're evil in the wet, esp. in a 2WD car - you'll be doing fine and then the a*se end of your beloved Boxster will just let go. I would definitely recommend Michelin Pilot Sport 2s Dave as a great all round tyre, but I'm not sure if they do them in your size... [/ QUOTE ] I think these tyres are/what was on the early press RS4s that were in Italy a few months back. It rained just before the journos got the keys ...... and the Audi engineers changed all the wheels over as the tyres were 'not good for rain'
