Welcome to TSN. Opinions so far are that they are great drivers car, some would argue better than the original MKIV as they are not so stiffly sprung, make a wonderful noise and are very expensive for a Golf, especially with DSG (which seems to be the most popular choice) and getting hold of one from a VW dealer could be quite difficult as they are only importing limited numbers to keep the demand high. As for the looks, well, thats a can of worms. I'd say the majority of MKIV owners dislike the looks as it doesn't stand out as much from a regular Golf, unlike the GTi and the original MKIV, both of which seem to have better road presence. One other 'problem' most MKIV owners have with the new one is that it will not be limited edition and so the interior lacks that little special something over and above the GTi. Personally, I'm happy to keep my MKIV. As for MPG, well if the MKIV is anything to go by, its a beautifully sonorous V6 which means you will drive it pretty hard which has bad effect on the mpg. It can be made to sit at 30mpg all day but its hard resisting the temptation to floor it with the windows open and then you'll be looking at 20mpg. As for the dealers, well another can of worms. Most have had bad experiences with the VW dealer network, especially if something goes wrong. Unfortunately, VW like to let down a great product with poor customer care. Lets hope they have worked on that for the new model.

I've so far travelled approx 3400 miles in mine since mid November, and under normal driving have so far averaged about 25mpg. My daily commute consists of 5 miles of 40mph road, and 20 miles of 70'ish smile.gif roads... The most I've managed to get out of a full tank of Super (£50) is about 275 miles......

I recently drove 260 miles m23 / m25 / m4 / m5 / A38 ...picked something up, turned round and went back home... I averaged about 28mpg...Thats the best it's been so far!!!

I've found out the best way to improve fuel consumption figures is not to check the mpg... or never keep a mental note when it was you last filled up.....

You don't buy one of these cars to save the planet!
